What is the measurement from the female end to the back of the plug? I need a plug that is 1 3/4 inches or less for clearance.

Depends on where you're measuring from. If you mean the part that's outside of the socket when it's plugged in, it's about 1 1/8" from the outside edge of the socket. If you mean the entire plug front to back, it's just a hair under 1 3/4". I had a similar problem, bought this for a home theater PC that just barely fits onto my media shelf.
