I got my grandson a Aleinware X51 computer and a gateway monitor and he says he needs a dual link digital video cable. Do you think this is compatible?

Sorry, I just read closer the cable you were interested in. This cable is an extension cable and you need a regular cable with M/F connectors, not M/M.

I am setting up dual monitors with an older emachine monitor and a ViewSonic monitor. The emachine calls for a dvi-d and the ViewSonic calls for dvi-a/d. Is the cable compatible with this setup?

The DVI-D connector on this cable has 3 rows of 8 pins & should plug into any monitor calling for a DVI-D connector. Check the connection on your video card and make sure it has 3 rows of 8 holes for the monitor to plug into. From your description it sounds like this would work for you. A DVI-A connector has 2 sets of pins, so a DVI-A cable will plug into a DVI-B port -- but a DVI-B cable will not plug into a DVI-A only port.
