Not to loud, it is mechanical but you really don't need much pressure to have the keystrokes, so it really isn't that bad. Probably one of the best keyboards I ever owned.

can this work on ps/2 with a usb-ps/2 adapter (passive)?

I can't speak to whether the keyboard will function, but I'm fairly certain the backlighting will not. I don't believe the PS/2 port is rated for enough power delivery to power the backlighting.
