can't figure out the 5.25 drive. Attempting to install my optical drive to front slot. Looks like we remove the little insert already install, lower the fans, and install the insert upside down. The holes in the insert don't match up with holes on side of 5.25 (optical drive) device. How does this work?

Diagram 2 of page 27 of the manual shows the orientation of the mounting bracket. The holes on your drive should match the lower slot in the side of the bracket. Note that the horizontal bar in the bracket is on the top front.

Will an asus z590 fit in this case?

It will depend on the exact Z590 motherboards. Any of the ATX or smaller boards will fit very well. The extended-ATX boards may technically fit, but they will be better suited for 7 XL rather than the 7.

If I get a 360mm water cooler can I still have an optical drive?

Accepted Answer

No, the front of the case only mounts up to a 280mm radiator with an optical drive installed and the top only mounts up to a 240mm with optical drive. Go to fractal's website for the manual for the define 7, it gives the specs for different mounting layouts.

Does not look like it will, but the Fractal Design Define 7 XL might.  The problem here is it supports EATX up to 285mm the board you are looking at at is 309mm.

It will fit given the depth of that motherboard is 277mm compared to the max of 285, but not particularly well. There will be difficulty routing many cables, such as ATX power, that might force you to use the storage layout. The Define 7 XL would have no problem with that board.
