Can I use any normal power supply or will this only fit a server psu?

I used a normal power supply with no problems.  I transplanted all the guts from a tower PC into this chasis.    Nothing else to buy.   Warning on the product page says, "Compatible with standard ATX PSU no more than 160mm in depth."   Anything larger would not fit.

Are the PCI slots in the back full height or half height?

They’re full height. But the airflow in this case is not good enough to support GPUs at full load.

what is the weight of this case as it ships (no packaging)?

It's about 18 pounds, but that includes the gallon of milk. I'm using mine as a cooler. I fill it with ice and then add drinks and milk. That's about all it's good for.

Question 4

I brought this case as a server we're building for work. we have 4 2.5" drives we need to mount but can't find the part that is needed. Please help?

Hi there i asked the same question to iStar and below was the response from them. Seems there is nothing more needed from what i understand to mount 5 3.5" drives. If not i have included his contact information in this message contact iStar directly.

If you are using 2.5" drives you will also need 3.5 to 2.5 drive tray converters which you can get here on newegg. Search for Model #: ORICO AC325-4S-BK.  It does 4 x 2.5" drives. I think you could mount that bracket in the istar case easily enough.

5 internal HDD is total number of drives, you can fit 3 there in the HDD bracket, 2 others right between the front cages between 5.25 cage and p/s, right in the center behind the chassis nose, you can fit 2 there I think.
There are 2 sliders you can take out, mount the HDD and slide back in.

Yes, this case will fit a standard ATX motherboard 12x9.6 inches.  Verify the specs on the Sabertooth board to confirm the board also meets ATX specifications.

Does a U3 chassis support SSI CEB Motherboard like the ASUS P9X79-E WS? What special considerations for PSU, CPU Cooler, GPU  cards?

Yes this chassis supports the ASUS P9X79 LE, WS, Deluxe motherboards. A very solid case overall. Steel cabinet, well built, plastic doors on front are solid too not cheap plastic it is tight.

Special note! your power supply cannot be longer than 6" or it will not fit. This measurement is from where the power cord connects to the other end where the wires come out (length).

I was frustrated wtih this case at first trying to make a regular size power supply work as i loved the chassis in general. Once i contacted iStar and pointed that out to them, i started checking the measurements of the power supplies.

I ended up using an Antec 650 Platinum as it measures 5.5". Note this is a front-left  mounted power supply. There is a mounting bracket included with the case you screw 2 screws into the bracket, the bracket then mounts to the case.

One other comment. The hard drive bay, mount your drives first because you have to unscrew the HD bay from the BOTTOM of the chassis. 3 screws hold it it. Kind of a goofy design but how it is.

What's a recommended processor cooling fan that will fit inside this case?

There is a lot of room in this 3U so most any standard cooling fan / sync will work. If you plan on using a cooling fan that is very high, check the measurements of the case as well as your high cooler fan. I use the Intel BXTS13a and it has plenty of room above that.
