Good laptop but get warranty! 1/25/2017 1:24:27 AM

Pros: -Bright LED keyboard with good nighttime visibility and tactile response.
-SSD drive is fast and responsive
-Good image quality
-Excellent entry level gaming laptop
-Great design for the power connector!

Cons: - Had to repair the screen within a few months of use
-Lenovo Customer support is absolutely abysmal. A "10-day" repair job took 2-months to complete without any good explanation.
-Quite heavy and while you are able to travel with it can be quite cumbersome.

Overall Review: Overall good price performance ratio for this product.

Don't bother 11/8/2016 5:30:05 PM

Pros: None at the moment, nice big screen I guess, can't use it.

Cons: I booted the laptop up twice, and it never booted again, just states that the driver signature could not be verified, when I did have it booted up, games that should easily run on the video card stutter and die, poorly optimized and filled with bloatware that I imagine caused the device to not boot again.

Overall Review: This is the second lenovo product that I've had the same issue with, one after a memory swap, this time? nothing, I did nothing to the device it simply won't boot, and this was a huge waste of money as it's after the return date.

Also shame on newegg for not letting me give less than 1 star for a product that simply doesn't work.

PIECE OF TRASH 10/23/2016 9:52:05 AM

Cons: The HDMI port on this broke within two months of use. Laptop itself, nor the tv it was hooked up to has moved an inch. Somehow, the port somehow shorted itself. What a piece of trash. Was hoping to use this for presentations but see I just wasted 800 dollars on a piece of junk that can't even output video.

Lenovo overclocks their laptop GPUs but this can be modified/fixed 10/20/2016 10:46:21 AM

Pros: A GPU overclock can improve performance if applied correctly.
This is not the case for Lenovo laptops I have owned (instructions/help in cons).

Cons: Overclocked GPUs can (will most of the time) crash on graphically demand games.
Every Lenovo laptop I have owned has had an overclocked dedicated GPU.
I have had to use MSI Afterburner to reduce the Overclock of the dedicated GPU to its BASE CLOCK not its boost clock on every one I have owned. (I usually reference TechPowerUp for the base and boost clock specs).

Overall Review: This is an informative review for people looking to buy this laptop.
Know that the laptop you get will most likely have a Overclocked dedicated GPU and you will have to dial it down a notch to make it stable.
This laptop is a great deal currently and shouldn't be passed up with this information I have shared.

Fantastic Laptop for the money when it works, Has flaws and been known to break 9/15/2016 2:24:44 PM

Pros: i7 skylake, 16GB DDR4, 17 inch screen

Runs very smoothly and has great performance for the price I got it for ($1099)

-Lots of functionality, laptop looks absolutely gorgeous, the built in speakers and subwoofer are fantastic with the dolby tuned software and runs most games very well.

-Also, great for streaming while gaming with decent settings. You won't be able to stream AAA titles like witcher, but most games with graphical tuning (geforce helps with this) you'll be able to run well.

Cons: Only a 256GB hard drive. Honestly this is disappointing for the price point, I misread when I bought it and thought it would come with a 1TB HD also.

Battery is very small and the laptop cannot handle being used for significant period of times without being plugged in. When it drops to 20% or when using battery saver mode the cpu speed drops down to a crawl. If you plan on using this laptop without charging it for a long period of time you will need to invest in a better bigger battery or look elsewhere.

Anti-glare plastic on screen is terrible. Washes out colors and makes everything a little blurry.

GTX 960 is a bit of a low end card, should of at least put a 970 on here especially since the last gen of Lenovos had the gtx 960 as well.

Windows 10 is annoying and there is some bloatware

Webcam sucks. For this price point they definitely went cheap on the webcam, picture quality is decent at best lighting conditions. You can't mirror the image at the max resolution as it doesn't support it, I ended up buying the Logitech c920 to offset the cheap built in webcam.

Overall Review: *UPDATE*

Woke up to the laptop refusing to power on. Screen remains powered off when turning on the power and even plugging in HDMI does nothing, only the power button stays on with the laptop not working. The graphics card seems to have died.

The laptop died on me within the first month of owning it. Have RMA'd it to Newegg for a replacement and can say that this is very disappointing. To have a brand new laptop die so quickly without any warning signs is troubling. Luckily I got the warranty when buying this and I recommend you do so as well.

Update 2*

After RMA I got a new laptop that has been working fine now. Looking at these reviews it seems that a lot of these laptops have faulty motherboards and graphics cards. Unless you are a newegg premier member with the warranty on this, I wouldn't risk getting this laptop especially based on the reviews and number of people having issues.

If i was purchasing a laptop again I would just save a couple more hundred dollars and go for an MSI or another brand that has more stable laptops and not this particular y700.

It has great potential . 8/15/2016 11:24:10 AM

Pros: It's graphics and memory are solid

Cons: the hard drive is useless and you need 16gb of ddr4.

Overall Review: I bought it reinstalled windows immediately to dump the bloatware, Cloned the hard drive to a 480 PNY cs2211 which has worked well. it also has a ssd m.2 slot if I want more. upgraded the memory 16 gigs Crucial ddr4 and I'm crusin at light speed. less than 10 second cold boot. have played a few games no problems at all. Worth the troublle for sure. Don't think I'll be upgrading anything for years to come. peace.
