Pros: The laptop is great, extremely fast processing and the 16GB of DDR4 RAM is amazing to have at this price point. It also looks professional, which, for someone who has to use it at a business meeting table like me, is a major plus. It's lightweight for a 15" gaming laptop, and the battery life has impressed me at around 3.5 hours per charge. Plugged in, this has run games including FO4 at frame-rates and graphics settings I never thought a laptop could. Well done Lenovo. It was also nice that they sent a USB optical drive in the box.
Cons: One major con... the hard drive. Really Lenovo? I would have easily paid $50 more for this to come from the factory with a 7200 RPM drive. This thing takes forever to load from the stock 5400 RPM drive. Why?, just why... this is what knocked the egg off. I now have to clone the contents of this drive onto not only a 7200RPM drive, but a boot drive of an SSD. This has shot the cost up. Also, all of the stupid Lenovo software solutions are too much. takes a good minute to boot from being off.
Overall Review: If you are in the market for a budget friendly, powerhouse of a machine, this is it. I replaced a MacBook Pro, and I am not going back. This is awesome! Runs all of my games (FO4 included) far better than my expectations, but looks nice enough for large business meetings. Thank you Lenovo!
Pros: -Build Quality: This laptop feels extremely sturdy. The metal material on the outside is pretty, however it easily attracts fingerprints. -Screen: I was initially worried the screen would be too washed out or faded, but coming from the awful TN panel on my old laptop, this screen is beautiful. It has vibrant colors, fantastic viewing angles, and gets very bright. Can't really complain. -Keyboard: It has great tactile feedback, caps-lock and num-lock lights, and red back lighting. What more is there to say? It's a great keyboard as far as laptops go. If you're not a fan of red the back lighting may be a con, but each to their own. -Sound: The speakers on this laptop is amazing. They're very loud and crisp, with a decent amount of bass. -Performance: Buttery smooth, as expected. My games run on high settings and this laptop is very fast and enjoyable to use.
Cons: -Mechanical Drive: While SSD on this laptop is great and speeds things up quite a bit, the larger drive is only 5400rpm. -No Internal Disk Drive: Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I prefer my computers have disk drives. Yes, this particular model comes with an external drive, however... it's really inconvenient to have to keep it connected for older games require disks to play. This probably won't be an issue for most people, but for me it is a bit of an annoyance. Other than that, I really don't have any major gripes with this computer (at least, not yet). If I do in the future I will do my best to update this review or write another.
Pros: This thing is absolutely fantastic as long as you don't expect something equivalent to a desktop in performance when you are gaming. I picked it up on a sale during Black Friday and have been using it almost constantly the last 3 days to finish a coding project for school and it hasn't failed me yet! It plays older games really well such as Skyrim, Fallout 3/New Vegas, Dark Souls 1 and 2 and anything else along that vein, New games like Witcher 3 and Fallout 4 it plays stunningly as well just at Medium Settings w/ 1920x1080 res which is still a good jump above my PS4 and about as good as my 2 year old desktop. The only downside for this would be the pre installed HDD which is 5400rpm and slow as all heck but Lenovo made it easy to remove the bottom panel and gain access to the drive bay, m.2 slot, Memory, and fans which is so nice since most laptops require a lot of fighting to get into them.
Cons: The only downsides so far is the fan does spin up a bit when doing heavy duty gaming but it's actually not bad since it's a steady "wooshing" sound instead of a high pitch whine and the machine doesn't get very warm at all while gaming for a couple hours at a time on top of which the HDD that was preinstalled is slow as heck but a 500gb Samsung 850 evo SSD was only $140 and easy to install, made this machine 10x faster.
Overall Review: Rundown: +Snappy CPU/GPU combo for Gaming and Programming +Very nice IPS screen with pretty good color reproduction +Runs very cool for extended gaming sessions and is silent otherwise +Keyboard is excellent, allows for fast accurate typing -Slow as heck HDD out of the box -Fans do kick up a bit while gaming but what laptop doesn't
Pros: Bang-for-the-buck - Best system around for $1k (w/ promo code). Too many Pros to list, see below.
Cons: 1) The two USB 3 ports & HDMI port are on the right side, which gets in the way a bit for right-handers that prefer to use a mouse. 2) It would be nice to have four USB 3 ports with HDMI 2.0 and/or DisplayPort, but HDMI 2.0 is very rare right now (makes it possible for 60Hz @ 4K resolution w/ a TV that also has HDMI 2.0). 3) I purchased two extra generic power adapters for $25 apiece, and they power the unit but the battery won't charge (it discharges).
Overall Review: Why I purchased this unit, after quite a bit of research, drawing from over 30 years' computer experience: Latest gen quad-core i7 w/ 33% faster memory; combined with a very respectable GPU, this system is optimal for video editing, gaming, etc. Much-improved cooling system over previous models, as (now) their best gaming laptop draws in air from below and flows out the back, which makes the CPU and GPU run quite a bit cooler, as shown by one youtube video author. When a computer system gets too hot it throttles down, and since this system doesn't have a cooling issue, the components will last longer, and you'll always get the best performance. I've had this unit a week, it's quiet and has never felt hot. Much-improved trackpad vs. previous models (a fairly common complaint), improved surface for typing on, excellent keyboard tactile response, nice red accent lighting for finding your keys in the dark. Speakers send Dolby JBL sound towards you instead of upwards due to the new design. Bottom of unit is no longer plastic (magnetic aluminum chassis). 15.6" FHD screen = more DPI vs. 17.3" FHD model, making it sharper; it's backlit, and not a touchscreen (which adds to the price). Battery life improved with the Skylake CPU; for a gaming rig, it's pretty darn good. Five hours of regular use is attainable. Comes with an external DVD burner, if comparing prices elsewhere check if the optical drive is included. High-end graphics w/ 4GB RAM (not the 2GB version)... The faster 970m and 980m GPUs command a large price premium; The 980m is approx. twice as fast as the 960m, but the 960m, combined with the components in this laptop, is plenty fast enough for serious gamers; hard-core gamers w/ a bigger budget may want to opt for a laptop with faster graphics as there are some demanding games that you won't be able to set for highest/ultimate settings with the 960m. Easy to upgrade the hard drive to SSD and/or add the latest m.2 SSD for seriously fast data transfer. There's 11 screws on the bottom, and it pries apart easier than most laptops. If you invest in an m.2 SATA drive, you'll need a very small screw. I found one that fit from my previous (and dismantled) laptop. Upgraded to Win 10 Pro, installed on an m.2 SATA drive, replaced the HDD with an SSD, and use the SSD for backup and storage. The HDD was put into an external USB 3 enclosure for external 1TB storage. System backups (from m.2 to SSD) take about two minutes for 20GB. It's even faster when reading from the SSD and writing to the m.2; for video authoring, one can have video clips to be worked with stored on the SSD to read from, and set the m.2 drive for the drive to write to. Bottom line: Get this computer, you won't be disappointed. I can't speak for tech support, as I haven't used it. But online chat at Lenovo was helpful regarding questions I had. If you want the same unit, but speedier, and don't want to take the computer apart, go for a 128GB m.2 SSD + 1TB
Pros: Comes with the Intel 8260 2x2 wifi card. This question was asked by many but not answered, the good news is it comes fully loaded. M.2 slot 16GB DDR 4 Skylake
Cons: 2.5" bay takes a slim HDD so my Intel 530 i was planning to utilize from the old laptop wont fit. Slow HDD but going to fix that anyway. Clam shell requires a bit of force to get it to part
Overall Review: The available M.2 slot ill purchase a SSD to take over the heavy lifting from the 1TB HDD Brought with bitcoin thanks newegg. The HD 530 initially failed the mathematical test as mentioned by another reviewer. A simple update of the graphics driver and also of Lenovo Solutions Center, re running the test the HD 530 passes all tests. Looks like it is a driver issue that has been addressed. So don't go sending back what is an awesome laptop for no good reason.
Pros: This is my first notebook in about 10 years. Run a very powerful destop. This Lenovo is so well built. Very impressed. Palm rest is just phenomenal, attention to detail, aluminum chassis from top to bottom. Styling is awesome, sound, performance.
Cons: None really. Windows 10, but give it time for improved drivers. But going to stick with windows 10 here, they support my FLAC's! Wish the battery life was better but 5-6 hours really not bad at all with a laptop of this power
Overall Review: Thank you Newegg for an amazing deal first of all. Can't believe the price I paid for a superior product. Absolutely love it. And wow, 1 day shipping, amazing! Couldn't be happier with my purchase, highly recommended.
Pros: Lenovo did a great job of implementing this hardware combination - all the components function well together, no driver issues so far. This laptop is built on a solid frame, has a nice feel, and the 'fit and finish' is much improved over previous Lenovo models. The key board is nice for a laptop, almost no flex and the key travel feels nice. The touchpad is smooth and precise, another big improvement over previous models. I opted to not get the model with the 4K resolution touch screen, as most mobile graphics solutions won't run games at 4K, and a lot of productivity apps don't scale correctly yet at 4K. I'm not going to split performance benchmark hairs here... the SSD loads Windows and apps FAST, and the NVIDIA graphics solution is great for a laptop in this price range. The 16GB will be more than enough for our needs. Fitted with both an SSD and a 1TB mechanical hard drive! The trend in laptops lately has been the elimination of optical drives. Lenovo spent the extra effort and cost to include an external DVDRW, for those times when you just have to use a disc. This was a big plus for me. The battery life in these machines has been reviewed as good, I haven't had a chance to test it myself yet. I bought this mostly for my wife's general use. She is pleased, life is good!
Cons: As expected, this laptop came with Lenovo's pre-installed propriety bloatware/crapware programs, as is common for all the big computer companies. I was just going to uninstall it if I didn't like it. After reading about all the security issues Lenovo has had with their software over the last 2 years, I decided that all this stuff was getting uninstalled right away. It turned out to be a bit difficult as some of it was deeply embedded. I still don't quite have all of it gone. The battery is internal, as opposed to the plug-in external battery packs that are common on a lot of laptops. This will require some extra effort if/when the battery needs to be replaced or upgraded. Lenovo doesn't list any replacements yet, but I do see them already available from a few other sellers. This was a minor concern for me. The NVIDIA updater wouldn't connect to NVIDIA out of the box. I just downloaded it again and reinstalled it, no issues now. This is just nit-picking, the four LEDs for power, hard drive activity, etc. are not visible when looking at the laptop from above. You have to lift the front edge or bend down to see the indicator LEDs. Lenovo should make these visible in the front edge of the palm rest. Another nit-pick, I'm not sure how I feel about the anti-glare screen. The colors seem to be just a bit subdued under certain lighting conditions compared with a glossy screen. This is just a matter of personal preference.
Overall Review: This could easily have been a 5 egg machine, but the bloatware/crapware issue is costing Lenovo 1 egg on this one. Not everyone is going to want to deal with uninstalling all that stuff. However, knowing what I know now, I would still buy another one of these in a heartbeat - you can't go wrong with this hardware package. At the time I ordered it in January, this was a minimum $300 better value compared to competitors (Asus, Alienware, MSI, Dell) that were not quite as well equipped. New Egg even had a better price than Lenovo's own website. For some reason this one wasn't included in the free gaming mouse promotion - oh well. Oh, and CHEERS to New Egg for positively responding to a pricing change issue that came up within 24 hours after I placed the order!
Pros: Laptop is pretty fast with the 6th Gen CPU and M.2 SSD. Very thin but deceivingly heavy. System feels solid without a lot of flex. Screen is anti-glare.. Battery life is pretty good too. 5 1/2 hours or so normal use per charge. Probably get closer to 8 with power saving settings. The rubberized coating on the palm rest is also nice.
Cons: First was the drivers. Had a couple failures when i ran the Lenovo system check program. Some drivers were out of date and there were no updates on Lenovo's site. Had to go into device info and right click on the devices and click update. Seemed to work fine. Second is the lack of cable and tray for the HDD. Didn't read the reviews before buying so I wasn't expecting that. Did some searching online and found a place that does sell the cable and tray parts. The site is Encompass.com and the part numbers are: Cable: 5C10K25544 Tray: 5B40K25518 Total cost for both with shipping is around $20 so it's not a lot to get the system where I want it. Placed my order so will update when I get them installed. Last is the 12GB's of RAM. Not sure why they would put in a 4 & 8GB stick when it's only a few bucks more to make it 16. The web site says max RAM is 16 however Crucial site says it will handle 32. Not sure if I want to spend the money for 32 though.
Overall Review: Got this as a Christmas present. Replacing a Asus N550JV with a 4th Gen i7 that has had a few issues with keyboard. I'm not a gamer. Like the performance so I can run multiple VM's and the IPS/HD screens (less wear on the eyes). Overall the Lenovo is a solid upgrade. Only issue is not coming with the parts to add a regular HDD and not having them available from Lenovo to purchase. A bit disappointed with the driver updates too but overall very happy with the system.
