Are the keys smooth and silent?

They are smooth, and it types nicely. Not silent; however is much quieter than an average keyboard. Can be nearly silent, if you are mindful of how you type on it. Mine has a bit of a sticky shift key(was like that new out of the box) I am an avid action game player, so I hold down the shift key more frequently than the average pc user, so that MAY have something to do with it. Overall, though, I have been very satisfied with this keyboard.

what color is the back lighting?

There's a button on the keyboard that lets you change it and turn off the lighting.  There's probably about 8-10 colors. I usually stick to the light blue, I find it easier on the eyes.

Does the Gaming Mode on this keyboard isolate the Alt+Tab function, or exclusively the Windows Menu key?

Anyone know if the macro keys are recognized by World of Warcraft?

I've been looking at various gaming keyboards and some people complain that various brands aren't recognized by the game of their choice. I'd like to avoid that if possible.

I have not personally tried the macro keys on WoW, but I am confident that they will work with no issue.  The 'G' keys are programmable, which means that you enter in your desired key strokes for the macro into the record interface.  When that 'G' key is pressed, the keyboard/software outputs the key strokes which were programmed into the macro record interface.  Therefore there is nothing particularly unique going on with the macro, simply key stroke(s) programmed to one key.  As long as Wow recognizes the actual keyboard commands within the macro, then it should recognize a macro itself.

is this windows xp compatible ?

Yes? I don't know why you would want to use XP with a gaming keyboard but yeah its compatible. If you download software to support the macro keys that may not be, but the buttons will all respond just like they will on 7 and 8. I believe it is actually made for 7. As far as I know, as long as the keyboard has the right connector type unless you are trying it on windows 2000 or some crazy old OS it shouldn't be an issue.

Is it compatible with MAC OSX? (maverick) Thinking about using this as an extension to my mac book pro

That actually is the problem why I returned it. I connected it with my mac pro, but whenever I adjust the brightness of the light, my speaker would make a weird noise that won't go away. I'm not sure if it is not compatible with mac osx or I didn't do the setting right. Aside from that, the buttons are actually not as smooth as I expected. I really like Logitech, but this one really disappointed me, so I had to return it, and bought a cheaper one to replace it temporally, and waiting for the mechanical keyboard to be on sale. Plus, I bought this for gaming, if that's not why you are getting it, then I wouldn't suggest you to get this.

what is the dimensions of this keyboard?

The keyboard is 19" wide, 6.5" tall at the edges and 7.5" in the center.  The keyboards is 1" deep, but the risers in the bottom of the keyboard add another half inch to the height of the far-side when extended (1.5" total).
