What, if anything, makes this keyboard uncomfortable or not suitable for typing?

Absolutely nothing. The key-switches feel a lot like Cherry MX Brown. There is a bit of a springy ring to the keyboard, whether typing on the keys, or tapping on the plastic frame. That was a little off-putting at first, but I've since become accustomed to it. My keyboard sings to me as I work. The key-caps have a nice, soft, velvety feel. I write probably around a thousand words a day using this keyboard, not including instant messaging chat sessions and emails, and it feels great. Solid Logitech construction and design that I feel will last a long time. The only other thing that would be an issue is if you use one of those foam wrist-guards that sit along the front of the keyboard. The molded plastic frame would interfere with that.

how loud are these keys vs cherry mx reds?

I have not used a keyboard with Cherry MX Red switches, but I do have one with Cherry MX Black (same linear, non-tactile, non-clicky key travel, but the MX Black switches require a bit more pressure to activate).  The Romer-G switches in the G410 have a light, tactile bump, much like Cherry MX Brown.  So no loud click noise, but a little tactile bump mid-way through keypress.  That said, a lot of the sound will then depend on how hard you mash the keys when you type.  The frame around the Logitech G410 has a lot of plastic and void spaces inside that plastic, so there's a resonant sound if you really hit the keys.  It creates a faint little springy, sing-song sound that I think resonates through all the extra plastic.  That faint little ringing, and the hollow sound of all the extra plastic was a little off-putting for me at first, but the keyboard is stellar in every other way so once I became accustomed to it so I no longer notice.  A low-profile keyboard like the Corsair, with Cherry MX Red is definitely going to be whisper silent (unless you REALLY pound the keys).  Still, Logitech makes solid gear that lasts forever.  In more than 20 years I've never had problems with any of the Logitech equipment I've purchased, something I can't say about any of the others I've tried.

TL:DR  Maybe not as quiet as you'd like, but less to do with the keyswitches and more to do with all the extra plastic Logitech surrounded the keyboard with, but still a stellar keyboard that I know I can trust.

Question 3

How well does the "ARX" work with that app and usefulness during a game. Is it useful for all games? If you press the space bar down at any point does it work well?

ARX has since figuring out what was wrong with it worked flawlessly for what little I use it for. I purely use it for PC monitoring and it doesn't show everything I want it too. Only viable active usefulness would be swapping profiles on-the-fly in the event LGS doesn't auto-select profiles. Otherwise I don't see the validity to making adjustments to LGS. I can see the Media function being useful for HTPCs by providing remote-access media controls. This is however dependent on a media player already running, in which case you likely already have some kind of IR remote setup for said HTPC. /shrug

Question 4

Is this the best choice for a so-called tenkeyless keyboard for typing on a desktop in a dark room?  Our need is for a brightly-lit keyboard that will be used by two-finger and four-finger typists for as much as 8 hours per day.

Based on the wording of your question I would sooner recommend a Corsair TKL Cherry MX Red or Brown. Unlike the G410 the Corsair Mechanical keyboards have an underglow that highlights the entirety of the keys.
