When you took this out of the box for the first time, how did you charge the device for the first time? Did you use the cable provided?

I used my charger from my Sony tablet to charge the unit with a mini USB plug.I did this for 24 hours.It has held it charge for 2 week before having to be recharged.

Is this one of those super fast chargers?  I've purchased wall chargers and portable battery packs in the past, and they are super slow to charge. With the regular Samsung Charger I can charge my phone to 100% in under three hours.  With the older tech charging devices it can take up to 12 hours.

It all depends on your definition of "fast" with your device, I have an iPhone 5, so my standard will be skewed compared to yours, the Samsung devices will generally have a longer battery internally.

This charger has two USB ports, one with a 1 amp standard and one with a 2 amp standard. Most Samsung devices (after the Galaxy SII) use a charger with that higher amp output, which will charge your device faster and will fill a larger battery in a shorter amount of time.

This should meet the time of your regular wall charger to the minute honestly, there's realistically nothing faster than a stock charger that doesn't risk hurting the device, so the only thing it can be is slower, and this battery shouldn't be.

I've enjoyed this since I got it about a month ago, it's sturdy and does it's job well, so I think it should work for you, it has a recommendation from me.
