Does this phone require a Data-Plan even though it is unbranded/ unlocked?

Im not sure if you must buy a data plan, because I use a pre-paid service plan so I only pay for what I use.

But to my knowledge the cell providers must have a specific phone in their system and it has to qualify as a "smartphone" for them to charge you for "smartphone" data plan.  The 808 isn't in their system (In North America cell phone providers *a.t.&.t.*) as a phone so it isn't categorized as a "smartphone". So I believe you can get away with no data charges or even "dumb phone" data charges and you wont get flagged and charged by their automated system. But since I never used this phone on a contract plan I don't know for sure. I know for sure this is how it worked for my Nokia N95 8gb phone when I was using it under a contract service in North America (a.t.&.t.).

What is the country designation for this Nokia 808?

I received a RM-807 NV LTAU1, It was brand new with the Nokia protective seal intact. I believe its a Latin America Version because all the instructions/booklets are in Spanish, but its worth it for a brand new unmolested 808 with original accessories, in my opinion. Hope this helps
