Does this version support the profiles in Netflix?

Short answer appears to be no. Linked this to our family account and it would only see the first registered account holders name. But then again you could pay for a separate account and be a solo account. Was slow to hook up wireless,  but plugging it directly into the network solved that issue.

is this the same as a Roku 2?

This specific model being sold as a refurbished model is not the revised/updated 2015 version of the Roku 2.  There are some changes between the models sold in 2014.  The current Roku 2 has essentially the same guts as the Roku 3 without a couple features being turned on.

Hello, the Roku 2 has an Ethernet port and I dont see one pictured here. Does this unit have Ethernet capabilities?

I also wanted to confirm that this unit supports youtube (has the youtube app). My understanding is that Roku recently made this available in the last couple months.

Hi,

Yes, the Roku 2 that I have has an Ethernet port.  That is the way I have it connected to my network and its works fine.  I've also had it connected via wireless and that's fine too.

The only complaint I have about the Roku 2 is that the YouTube app is a bit sluggish while navigating compared to my Roku 3.  The YouTube videos play fine once you select them though.  Other than that, I've been satisfied with my Roku2

Yes, ROKU specs state it 802.11 b/g/n dual band. 
It is a bit slow on b/g
n is fast ,but wired connection is best.

This is indeed a very high quality product! For your desire to send streaming media from your laptop.. most modern laptops already support HDMI output and therefore, the Roku is not needed. I use my laptop to play DVD's that friends send to me from foreign countries as the laptop DVD player accommodates all region codes.

While it is a very fine product There is a drawback. Unlike the Apple
TV it remains always on generating heat and using electricity.

Roku does the refurbishing, but often times it may simply be damaged box so it's actually brand new unit and remote put into a new box and sold as refurbished.

The short answer is, yes, you should be able to connect as long as it's a traditional wifi or LAN router like in your home.

On the other hand, you will have problems connecting ROKU to a hotel wifi due to the way you have to accept terms and input the internet password on a proprietary log-in screen.    This makes the ROKU setup impossible.  Hopefully this is not the case for your vacation rental. My advice for those staying in hotels is to bring cables (3 cable RCA-type or HDMI) with you to connect your laptop to the TV if you want to watch Netflix or other service or to steam online vids. It kinda defeats the purpose of buying a ROKU, though, and is an issue the company really needs to address.
