Question 1

What kind of key caps?  Cheesy painted ones that are worn clear after a few months of typing?  Laser etched? Double shot/Dual injection?

The letters are opaque plastic, letting the light shine through. I've had it for I think two years now, and it doesn't have any visible wear, just shiny keys. I've also taken all the keys off and soaked them clean, and they still look and function fine. The letters themself look to be slightly dipped in, but the keys feel smooth. The logo, as well as a couple marking on the board itself are white, And haven't worn at all, although I don't really touch and rub those areas, so it shouldn't wear anyway.

Does it work with a mac book pro?

I honestly don't know.  I don't know much about Mac Books.  It uses USB 2.0 plug.  It only uses Windows Key, it doesn't have any Apple type keys on it.

Question 3

Does it work with KVM switches? So many mechanical and "gaming" keyboards don't.

Sort of.  I bought one of these Rosewill Apollo RK-9100xRBR red backlit mechanical keyboards and plugged it in to my Aten CS1782 KVM switch and initially nothing worked.  Eventually I figured out that using the secondary USB input (not the mouse/keyboard input) for the KVM switch got the keyboard working with my two computers.  But still the "scroll-lock scroll-lock enter" escape phrase doesn't get recognized by this KVM, so switching from one computer to the other requires either hitting the button on the KVM or using a different keyboard.  Fully embracing my laziness and unwillingness to dig under my desk for the KVM switch every time, I plugged in my old keyboard and leave it pushed way back on top of my desk (in addition to this backlit mechanical keyboard which I actually use and really like) to make it easier to switch between PC's.  YMMV, the CS1782 is fairly old so maybe newer KVM switches do a better job.  But I really like the keyboard, especially after putting in little rubber o-rings to soften the noise just a bit.

Any idea if the key layout/sizing is standard for keycap replacement?

Yes, I believe this exactly follows the standard keyboard layout that PC's switched to about 30 years ago that moved function keys to the top.  I always preferred function keys on the left, and have always hated the 3 columns of keys in the middle right before the number pad, but nobody asked me, and this standard predated it from mainframes, so it won.  But it has its uses!
