It does not have a power swtich. The power automatically shuts off when you shutdown the computer or device it is connected to.

I've been using it with Vista, no problems at all.  Easy plug and play.  Spec note it will work with Windows 8/7/vista/ xp.

Yes.  Backwards compatible to 1.1.  You just won't get the speed benefit.

does this external have to be plugged in to a outlet to work? or can i plug in the usb and use it?

This drive must be connected to AC (wall) power.

The smaller 2 1/2" drive use only the power supplied by the USB port.

Just got this drive a few days ago.  I'm hearing a buzzing sound from the transformer that plugs into the outlet.  Neither my WD nor Seagate have this, but they are for US 110V only.  Is this normal or should I try to get a replacement?

I can't recall any noticeable buzz from the power supply.  Samsung usually has a very robust support forum and user-base.  I would try to research that or contact Samsung support before asking for a refund.

Well that's not technically a question. However if you are asking if it can make a full backup of my computer then yes, there is plenty of room to do so. You could have more than 1 if you wanted to. I currently use it as a media server and it works beautifully.

I began using this product with Windows 7, but I upgraded to Windows 10 and have had no trouble with it at all. I reckon it would work just fine with Win10.

It will depend on the file system. Format the drive to the Mac file system or if you want it to also work on Window, you can load support for NTFS on your mac.

Your question is kind of vague, but if you are asking if this drive supports USB 2.0 then the answer is Yes. All USB 3.0 devices are compatible with USB 2.0, they will just run at 2.0 speeds instead of 3.0 speeds.
