Yes, the connector is a standard mini headphone jack that should work with most phones. These headphones don't have a microphone if that was a feature you were looking for.

Is there an ambient noise-cancelling feature built into these 'phones?

You get a little bit of sound isolation with the ear cups covering most of the ear, but they do not have noise cancelling technology. 
They do feature a very long cord, so you can sit farther away from the annoying people.
But gorgeous Sennheiser sound in an inexpensive product - that's the selling point here.
