Do the the ear cups cover your ears? I wear behind the ear hearing aides and need generous ear coverage.

They do cover my ears - but just barely.  If I adjust them, I can get them to "cup" my ears by forcing the top of my ear into the cup.  They do not cup/surround my ears my themselves.

With that said, the cups rotate very easily, and I would surmise that they would be comfortable with your hearing aides.  I don't believe you will be able to fully surround your ears, but because of the rotation, lightweight, and very comfortable nature of these headphones, you might not have to many problems.

I want to purchase a cheap/hard rock headphones for my brother. I currently own Senn 598 and 508s. I wear the 598's when I want to listened to music more oriented to "rock/heavy rock/heavy pop" but when I'm in the "Jazz/Classical" mood then the 508's come out. So your opinion is ?

I am fairly pleased with the performance of the 439, the high-frequency is crisp and the meds are smooth and with the close back the basis decent for the price. I'm not an audio file but I do appreciate the versatility of these phones. But one thing you may want to keep in mind is the ear cup or can size their a little smaller on this set and may be uncomfortable and cause ear fatigue. And you may be more satisfied with the 580's but you do get good quality at this price point. Hope this helps Greg.

There is no volume control on the headphone or cord.  The cord is detachable from the headset however, and with the package two cord lengths are include (short 1.4 meter and long 3.0 meter)

Does the bass have a deep response that is full with body?

I would call this more of a 'rich' bass rather than something that 'thumps'. Clean tones and pleasant listening. You can modify this somewhat with an equalizer, but there are some headphones out there designed to be bass heavy that you may like more if that's what you're looking for.

How heavy are they? can you compare them do others (i use a lot of sony cans)

To me, they're about the same weight a Sony MDR-7506.  Sound isn't quite as good, but they don't need as much power to drive and they're less than half the price, usually.
