Hi, this adapter does not work for the 8-pin extension.
Alternatively, you can purchase an 8pin power extender from Amazon or another retailer.
Do a Google search for something along the lines of '8pin motherboard extender.'

Question 2

Is there a power rating for this cable? I bought some cheap extensions and they keep melting when I'm gaming, then I realized I didn't read far enough and they're only rated for 60 watts.

Not that know of, mine have never melted, now if I knew anything about watts and voltage on an expert level then I'd be of better help to you.
Now melting would only occur if you pushed the heat too hard so that it would melt by forcing either the GPU and/or CPU to product that kind of heat that either could not handle, not that I've ever done that as my custom-build's are built to handle the PC games I planned to play on them, and those games are StarCraft 2 with it's two expansions, Heroes of Might & Magic 3 Complete (disc version), and StarCraft Remastered with it's Brood War expansion, but I don't play games that everyone else plays that requires radical amounts of hardware resources(RAM, CPU and GPU) that leads to overheating something!

Maybe you should keep both your system and cables cool, and I mean that in a equality-minded way! My system has NEVER had your problem!
