To use this keyboard, is some kind of razor program needed? Or is that extra to bind keys?

Accepted Answer

You don't need a program to use the keyboard, when you plug it in Windows should download the required drivers. However, after about 6 months of using the keyboard (I also have a Razer mouse), a program called Razer Synapse 2.0 was downloaded through Windows Updater. Through that program you can set up keybinds and control other features.

what is the difference between stealth edition and regular ultimate?

Pretty much the loudness of the click.. and stealth has slightly faster actuation point/reset point. don't think a human could tell difference. Still has the click because it is a mechanical keyboard, just not as loud. They are the same design, just not insanely loud like my friends who has last years model. some peoples like that.. but... if you have a significant other, they may get annoyed from insanely loud clicks, bear that in mind lol hoped this helps!

What type of key switches does this use? Cherry MX keys?

As far as I know, Razer developed their own switches (Razer Orange) for use in newer Blackwidows, including the 2014 models. While I can't personally comment on how its tactility compares with Cherry MXs, I've read that it's slightly different, but not in a bad (or, for that matter, good) way.

It's worth noting that Razer is releasing a new model, the Blackwidow Ultimate Chroma, with RGB-LEDs and greater customisation, next month, which could potentially be worth the wait.

1. Does the backlight come on automatically when the computer boots or do you need to press a key to turn on the backlight? 2. Does the backlight turn off during sleep or hibernation? 3. If yes, does the backlight come on automatically upon wake from sleep or hibernation or does one need to press a key? (Had to ask again because entered wrong email)

1. Yes the backlight comes on automatically at start up.
2. Yes backlight shuts off when in hibernation/sleep mode.
3. Yes backlight comes back on automatically upon wake up.

As an additional note you can change the brightness all the way down till its off so to get it back you would have to increase it with a button that way but it keeps the last setting till u change it .

Can you change the color of the lighting?

You can't. I think they have another one that does but it costs a bit more. There are other brands of keyboard that allow you to change the color of light as well. It is still a great gaming keyboard though. I like how heavy it is so it does not slide around. Macro keys are a nice feature but I don't use them that much.

1. Yes, the backlight will come on once the computer boots up.

2. If it's the monitor that sleeps/hibernates, it'll automatically wake from sleep and light up.

What is the difference between this model & the standard 2014 Blackwidow Ultimate Edition? Is is just the keys are quiter? Both do feature the backlit keyboard, not just the keys, right? Looking for getting the one that has the brightest backlighting....

I had the standard black widow 2014. The keys were very loud and clacky. If you live with anyone it might drive them nuts like it did my wife. I ended up returning it and getting the stealth model. They still make a little clicking but less noticeable (only difference I am aware of). Both have the same very bright back lighting. I actually reduced the brightness on it because it was so bright. I love the stealth model. The key action is very quick and gratifying.

What type of mx are the keys for this keyboard? Black, Brown, blue, red or Green?

it has none of the above.. razor ended up making their own mechanical keys made for gaming, as for the mx keys were made for typing and then got popular with gamers. the actuation point/ reset/lifespan was made to surpass all mx keys and does by the numbers... whether or not a human can tell the difference im not so sure... if your hardcore gamer in competitions, faster response time/reset wont hurt. i own this keyboard and it is legit. the non stealth i heard people say it was like cherry/blue and stealth is like brown. the stealth also clicks and has tactile feel its just not loud enough to keep whole house up, like absurdly loud counter part. hope this helps

Hi. I'm used to using a flat keyboard like on my mac. So, I was wondering if this would be the best keyboard as far being for someone who uses a flat keyboard?

If you are looking for that same flat feel then this keyboard wouldn't be for you. That being said I love this keyboard, mechanical keyboards have a much better feel than others and the stealth aspect if this keyboard minimizes the noise produced by standard mechanical keyboards. So I'd say if your looking to upgrade your keyboard experience I would highly recommend this keyboard, but if you want that same flat keyboard feel with a mushy keyboard press I would stay away

No it only has the green led lights built in.
