What should my tranfer rate be if I am moving a file from my computer to my Linkstation 210?  My computer is on a wireless connection

I tested the transfer rate today from an older Toshiba Laptop with a dual-core 1.83Ghz Processor on a 10/100 Ethernet connection hardwired network, moving a 18.8GB file from local machine to the NAS and found the read rate from 46 to 75 MB/Sec, and the write rate to be around 50.2 MB/Second.  It took around 5 minutes to move the file.

I am sure it is faster, with faster computers.  I know that backup images being done in the middle of the night, only take a few minutes.  Right now, I have no way of testing those for you, as I need exclusive access which I could not do while users are accessing their computers.

I have a 3TB external HDD, will i be able to connect it to this and access it w/o attempting to transfer the files to it from my existing HDD?

If the existing external hard drive has a USB interface, It looks like it will connect to this thing as extra space to access. I just purced the drive so I can verfy this. Keep in mind USB 2.0 will only transfer at half the speed of a 1G network connection 480Mbits/sec. So if you have a tune to copy over I would connect the old drive to a computer and copy all over the wired network to the NAS.
