Yes it does.. I replaced my 3.5 hd with 2 2.5 ssd which i mounted in bracket.. Then the bracket slid right into the spot where i pulled out the 3.5. I had no trouble installing the mounting screws either.

Do I need this bracket for mounting in a Toshiba Quosmio laptop?

I wouldn't think so. This bracket is used to mount laptop sized hard disks (2.5 Inch) into desktop computers (3.5 inch drive bays).

The kit comes with mounting units that attach to pre drilled holes in chassis of case, if by chance you have shortage you can re adjust your holes to match said setup, hope that helps.

I wouldn't recommend doing that. They generate heat and you could damage one or both if they are mounted close together. Sounds like you are running out of space for extra drives. I bought a larger case last year and have plenty of room, with three SSDs and a hard drive and haven't even come close to filling up the hard drive space available.

Can a 2.5 SSD be mounted to the extreme right side of the mounting kit?

It's made of plastic, if you are brave enough, anything can fit! You may need to drill the appropriate holes for the bottom SSD screw mounts. Just make sure you mark your holes and don't have the SSD in place while drilling. Good luck!

Essentially this allows you to put a 2.5" SSD into the adapter and then it functions as a 3.5" drive for insert into a computer case, which I thought would be universal.

Plastic. The threads will eventually strip out on at least one screw hole with repeated use. If you don't care about that, plastic is cheaper. Metal is harder to strip threads on thus tends to last longer.
