BYTECC ME-350U2(V3)-BK 3.5" USB 2.0 Aluminum External Enclosure

Pros: Looks cool I suppose, nice bright LED's.

Cons: Like the other reviewer, after a few days of use my drives began to randomly spin-down and back up again. Like the drive thinks a power failure is happening. This became a nightmare for me. I bought two of these and then bought two other Bytecc cases (with a fan, thought it might be a heating problem). I bought a third drive from another manufacturer thinking mine were bad, it spins down and back up too. Two of my Bytecc cases do this, the other two probably do too, but I don't run them enough to find out. Find another brand.

Pros: Relatively easy install. Connection is good. Lights and enclosure look nice. Firm Stand.

Cons: none that i can think of.

Overall Review: It works as advertised, looks good, keeps cooler than my rosewill HD enclosure.

Pros: Cheap, worked for a while and seems sturdy...thats about it.

Cons: I had this connected to my old computer for quite some time, but only transferred data once, which was my entire music library. I just brought it to work and the power inverter is buzzing on a periodic interval and every time it buzzes you can hear the drive lose power. The power connects to the enclosure using a proprietary connector resembling a PS/2 port so I cannot test a different power adapter. I gave 2 eggs because I could not confirm that it was just the power inverter or if the controller board shorted out and the inverter is just shutting off because it senses it.

Overall Review: The drive fits very loose in the enclosure so it can slide around if you move it around a lot.

Pros: It worked, for a couple months. I really didn't use it that much, but it transferred prolly about 50 gigs for me before it died.

Cons: Cables were always coming out, very loose. I tried two different hard drives. Once I noticed it wasn't transferring properly, I tried a second drive, same problem. It seems to transfer for about 5 seconds, then stops. The drive stops spinning, and the active LED stop glowing. Then it will start again for another 5 secs, and stop. All data gets corrupt.

Overall Review: Formatting the drive is the only thing it can perform without failing, but now, I'm just gonna trash the enclosure. Might not even use the IDE drive. I picked up a SATA docking station, and another 500 gig drive. C2D E8400, EVGA 780i For The Win, EVGA 9600GT, 500G HD, 500G E HD. 4 Gig Patriot Viper.

Pros: The enclosure is all aluminum, seems to be decently constructed, fairly easy to assemble. Also, there were a couple times when I thought I had scratched it but there isn't a mark on it so definitely good quality. Newegg had it to me by Monday and I ordered it Sat. night. As always, excellent service from Newegg.

Cons: The power cord that goes from the AC outlet to the brick stopped working after a week. If you hold the cord a certain way it will work. Definitely a cheap cord and it's pretty short as stated in other reviews. The USB cable is also short but I have a hub on my desktop system and when used with my laptop it is long enough for my needs. The instructions are worthless.

Overall Review: The power cord is a minor nuisance since the connection on the brick is a standard computer or CRT monitor connection. I have plenty of spare power cords that are longer than the original so I'm using one of those now. If necessary, a longer USB cable would be easy to get as well. I only give it 4 eggs because the power cord failed after a week.

Pros: - Free 3 day shipping from Newegg - nice blue and red LEDs - Blue for Power - Red for activity - Nice Compact design - Cool Black with some sort of tribal design on the front. - Fits a 3.5" IDE drive.

Cons: - No padding for shock resistance. - No fan or heatsink to keep drive cool, other then the aluminum housing - No internal mounting so the drive just slides in - NOT USB powered, so you need an external power connector. I'm concerned that the drive will get damaged since it just slides in to the housing and isn't secured in any way. The exterior is pretty warm to the touch, so I wonder if it's actually cooling it. I wish it were USB powered, but that's probably impossible since it's 3.5 and IDE

Overall Review: It was cheaper then other enclosures if you count the free shipping. Good if you are doing a Computer upgrade and put the old drive in the Enclosure.. and then grab files off of it.

Pros: Easy to install. No drivers necessary for Windows XP or Vista. Keeps the hard drive quiet and surprisingly cool. Cheap.

Cons: Ugly in my opinion (matter of preference). Should use rubber or silicone mounts instead of screws (small matter really).

Overall Review: Perfect for 3.5" hard drives.

Pros: simple to use...more so than a similar model i've had for a year. I like the base.

Cons: blue lights annoying...very bright. Black tape does the trick!

Overall Review: good bang for the buck and AL keeps the drive cool. Don't forget to format your drive before you mount it into this box!
