The Canon EOS 80D is a solid choice for those new to SLR photography as well as seasoned users who want a versatile DSLR you can use in almost any situation. The Canon 80D offers a 24.2 megapixel CMOS sensor that provides high resolution images paired with a DIGIC 6 processor that increases image processing speed for both images and video. The increased processing power also reduces image noise and provides vibrant colors and smooth gradations even in low light environments. The 80D has built-in Wi-Fi and Near Field Communication (NFC functionality) so you can send you photos and videos to social media or friends and family wirelessly.

24.2 Megapixel (APS-C) CMOS Sensor

The CMOS sensor used in the 80D is a newly developed piece of equipment that’s capable of capturing high resolution images as well as allowing ISO speeds as high as 16000 for photographs and 12800 for movies. This combination of high resolution and increased light sensitivity means the 80D can provide clear, sharp pictures even in low light environments.

DIGIC 6 Image Processor

The 80D’s Digic Image Processor works in combination with the camera’s CMOS sensor to provide excellent image quality and processing speed whether you’re shooting still images or video. When shooting in ISO 12800, the DIGIC 6 processor greatly reduces the amount of visual noise, too. Additionally, the DIGIC 6 powers all of the camera’s performance capabilities like distortion correction and high-speed continuous still shooting.

Built-In Wi-Fi

The EOS 80D camera incorporates wireless technology right into its compact design. The camera's exposure settings, such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO, focus and shutter can be operated wirelessly using a compatible iOS or Android smartphone with the free Canon Camera Connect app. Using a compatible smartphone with the Camera Connect app installed, you can shoot remotely from a distance, too. Also, Images and video can be uploaded instantly to CANON iMAGE GATEWAY for easy sharing on social networking sites, and photos can even be printed on a wireless PictBridge-certified printer without the need for a PC.

Near Field Communication (NFC) Functionality

Built-in NFC helps provide a virtually seamless connection to numerous compatible Android smartphones, and the Canon Connect Station CS100. To transfer your photos and videos, simply tap the EOS 80D camera to the Connect Station CS100 and the transfer is done! With the Connect Station CS100, you can store, view and organize all of your photos and videos from just one device.

45-Point All Cross-Type AF System

For next-level AF operation, the EOS 80D camera has a wide-area, 45-point, all cross-type AF system. Excellent in dim light, it has improved low luminance performance to EV -3 and is compatible with most EF lenses (lenses with maximum apertures of f/8 or higher, and some lenses with extenders attached may operate at a maximum of 27 points). It also features 4 types of AF area selection modes useful for a number of different AF situations. These include user-selectable Single-point AF, Zone AF, where users can select from one of 9 predefined AF zones; Large Zone AF, where one of three zones can be selected; and 45-point AF auto selection, where the camera detects the AF point automatically.

Good deal 11/13/2019 9:54:06 AM

Pros: I was pleasantly surprised how fast it arrived and how helpful the CS rep was when I purchased the extended warranty.

Cons: I have yet to experience any as yet. I just maybe if I have to mention a con it would be that I would have liked a physical manual and not a PDF, but I can live with that for the price difference.

Overall Review: The camera speaks for itself, the service was great and I am more than pleased with the overall purchase and transaction.
Now, if they have a sale on the Sigma 150-600 or Canon 100-400 MkII they will have a repeat customer.

Excellent camera!! 7/1/2019 2:51:09 PM

Pros: 24 mp, touchscreen (though I never really use it), microphone AND headphone jack (almost unheard of to have both!), wi-fi, reasonable price, good focusing points and fast, lightweight, Canon quality!!

Cons: Movie recording button and operation are a bit non-standard, menu button is on the wrong side of the back of the camera.(should be sble to use your right thumb alone, for all menu operations and selections...takes some getting used to. Thats it!

Overall Review: The camera body was purchased for $730 which was an awesome deal. However, likely might indicate it is close to being discontined. But many prominent resellers are still selling body-only for $999 or just under. Kits with ho-hum 16-55 mm lenses are still being sold for $1399. Buy the body-only instead, and grt the lens of your choice; I bought a Sigma 18-250 mm at Newegg for $269.95!!!

My First DSLR, Very Pleased 11/29/2017 12:27:59 PM

Pros: - The design makes the camera very comfortable to hold and use
- Buttons, dials, and UI are very intuitive, especially for a new user
- Very versatile
- Wifi/mobile features very useful (remote shutter, transfer to phone for quick & dirty edit, then post to social media)
- Easy to share accessories with other EOS series cameras

Cons: - NFC doesn't seem to work/not work well
- While I like the moble app and features they're a little buggy, I'm hoping they'll improve with future releases

Overall Review: Before I bought this pro/semi-pro photographers had told me how much they hated kit lenses. While I think hate is an exaggeration, as you get more into shooting you're going to want more lenses. The included kit lens is versatile, but it a jack of all/master of non sort of way. The included lens has been a great starting point.

I'm already in the market for a wider lens for landscapes, a telephoto, and a portrait lens.

Owned Canon 60D for many years - 80D is a wonderful upgrade, worth the wait 1/25/2017 2:00:59 PM

Pros: Can keep my 60D lenses. Wonderful low light capability. Autofocus on video with MP4 compression! External mic input and earphone monitoring of sound. Same excellent build quality and value as my treasured 60D (held up during trips to Europe, Ethiopia, Uganda). 18-135mm IS USM lens has very quick focus support, better than I know how to use. My brother is a much better photographer, but now I have as good a Canon as his 7D for most of the shots I take.

Cons: No lens hood with a $1400 purchase ... really Canon ? Lots of new settings to learn, OK not really a bad thing, but only so many hours in the day. Few excuses for out of focus or bad exposure shots unless intentional arty composition.

Overall Review: Highly recommended. Helping me grow as a photographer.

Cons: Videos can only be recorded for 30 minutes due to political reasons. No 4k timelapse ability.
