Does L190 have flat glass for scanning?

Yes it does have a glass surface, the top part is hinged and it opens up to access the flat glass.

How are envelopes printed? I would prefer a printer where I do not have to empty the tray first to insert an envelope.

To be honest, I am not printing envelope in any of the printer I had and even in this printer. The result is not nice. The envelope usually is flattened and there are creases or indentions I don't know the right term but the result is not good. That is my experience in all the printers I had so I never bother to print envelope.
