Question 1

I have a handicapped mother and a 6000 sq ft home....does she need to talk directly into the intercom or if she is in bed and it is on her bedside will it pick up her voice and what she is saying....is the distance of the house of the house good enough for one unit or will I need more units? Is it a buzz or a light to get your attention?

With out the power cord the range for this unit is 1,000 square feet. Therefore you may want to consider purchasing the power cord. I have read that people with 5 -6,000 square foot homes have used this unit and it works just fine. You will need minimum the 2 units to work together. That is all we have. However it depends which rooms / locations you want to be able to use it in. We do not have the power cord and ours runs off battery for quite a while. They are very light and portable so easy to take from room to room if you wanted. You can either hold down the button when you want to talk into the intercom or use the auto feature. If you use the button it has to be held down while you are talking into it. If you use the auto feature it will automatically pick up what you say. Kind f like a baby monitor does. However I have heard that it will sometimes cut off the very beginning of what you say. If someone pushed the button to try and communicate with your mom then she would hear a loud alert tone and I believe it flashes or lights up as well. It is better if you are a small distance from the intercom while speaking into it. If your mouth is too close then it will be hard to understand what you are saying. This is by far the best intercom system we have used. We love it! I would however suggest you start with the 2 set system. Try it and see if you like it. Then you can always add to it. Does this product work well in a steel building?

we used it in a steel building, lots of ambient noise, RF controlled cranes, wifi etc. Max distance we used them was around 150feet. The units worked as advertised, but the volume did not get loud enough for the environment, making it hard to hear. Off hours when machinery was not running, the devices performed fine.
