I went with it to build my new rig last August (2015.)  It was still over $100 then, but I wanted optimum speed and capacity in RAM to accompany my i7 CPU and the GTX 980ti GPU.  It was worth it, even at that price, for me.
  I have Skyrim modded out to STEP (230+ mods) with NOT ONE CTD due to the game's inherent memory overload anymore.
  I even plan to double up to 32 GB soon with another pair of chips now that the price is coming down.

Question 2

So what's the story? Is this ram a touch unstable or have all the problems been from poor motherboard XMP implementation? I notice that reviewers had issues getting it to run at cert speed on three different brands of motherboard.

The ram is fine.  My understanding is that there are some issues with the Intel LGA 1151 motherboard chipset and Skylake processors where people have problems with memory chips. Not sure what will happen over time.  Apparently, the actual data rate is 2133 Mhz even though the internal clock rate on the memory chip is 3000 Mhz.  Haven't studied the issue enough.  My conclusion though is that these Vengeance chips are fine and are specifically listed as being tested with Skylake CPU's.  They are working for me.

Can I use two sets of these in a ASUS ROG Maximus Hero VIII to have 32GB of memory?

Yes. The board has dual channel meaning you have 4 slot. The long explaining dual has 2 two slot. These board have one set black and other gray...quad channel has 8 slot.....

Also to use the faster speed go into the bios and enable XMP. That well allow you to use 3000 speed memory.

I have purchased this RAM and installed it in a MSI z170 Gaming M5 motherboard.  XMP profile for 3000 MHz will not work.  I also adjusted the speed manually to 3000 MHz and bumped the dram voltage to 1.35 V, and that didn't work.  I eventually decided to test the 2800 MHz speed without any other adjustments and that did work.  Still can't figure out what I'm missing to get this to work at 3000 MHz.

Any help would be appreciated.  I am rather new to overlocked memory.  Is there anything else I can do?  Thanks!

Make sure you have the latest version of the BIOS (1.4 as of today).  I've also had a LOT of trouble getting RAM to work at 3000 MHz with this motherboard - as have others.  I do NOT think it is in any way an issue with the memory.  MSI seems to have dropped the ball on their XMP implementation in the BIOS.  What worked for me was doing some tweaks on the SA and IO voltages.  XMP *did* work for me with BIOS 1.4 (it would not with the 4x4GB memory kit), but I ended up having to supply just a tiny bit more voltage to the RAM to get it totally stable.

Does anyone know if this RAM would work with an ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming Motherboard? I checked the QVL and only the CMK16GX4M2B3000C15 (black) version says is accepted. But the R at the end only refers to the color so I don't know if it would affect its compatibility or not.

It should work. I am using 2 reds and 2 blues with an Asrock Z170 board and they work fine. (I bought them at 2 different times and each time bought the color that was on sale at a lower price.)

I am looking for RAM that will fit under a Noctua NH-U14S CPU cooler. Noctua states that you have 32mm of clearance. I'm ordering a Gigabyte G1 Gaming  GA Z170X Gaming 5 mobo and I am not sure if RAM slot 1 is going to be covered or not. Does anybody know how tall these sticks of RAM are?

the U14s is a single tower/ fan cooler is it not? Just orient the fan away from the ram and you are good. I have a NH-D15 and they work fine though.

this RAM will work fine with the Maximus VIII Impact and Z170i PRO GAMING?, because this memories are not listed by Asus in their manual of memories tested by them.... i want to be sure before buying it....

I'm pretty sure the ram with work great in a Asus motherboard.  i have the MSI Gaming Z170A and the ram worked great right out of its package.

As there any reason to buy 4 sticks of 8gb for 32gb vs buying two sticks of 8gb twice for 32gb? One package of 4 is $20 more expensive than two packages of two. (at least this week)
