Will this work in an older mb with 20pin main power connector plus the 4pin?  I know some of the power supplies allow you to separate the 24pin so they work in a 20+4pin configuration. Does anyone know if cx430m will do that?  Thanks in advance.

i just built 3 computers all with this PSU and the 4 pin section does detach
all of the 24 pin power supplies I have used allow for pulling off the 4 pin section
this unit also has an 8 pin CPU power connector of which you'll likely only need 4 for an older MB - those separate as well

That is a pretty generic question. In reality, you need to know what size of case you have first off. This is an ATX size so it needs to go in an ATX case. Some cases have special size restrictions. Read up on the case to know for sure. Next thing I would look for is what plugs it supports. Example: 20 + 4 pin or 24 pin etc. That will be determined by what motherboard you have.

I like the modular power supplies because I only need to plug in the cables I need. If you don't get modular, then you will have all of the cables regardless of whether they are in use or not. I like only plugging in what I need. I usually have a lot of hard drives in my cases so I need to ensure I have enough Sata power Y splitters to support them. Four pin molex for fans etc. Same power and can be changed with a simple passive adapter so you can mix and match around in your case. Just need to have the adapters and splitters.

Once you know the size and type of plugs you want, next up is wattage. Bigger wattage is bigger bucks. Typically load a power supply no more than 75% of max thermal output. If you are getting a monster video card then you may need to look at the higher wattage units. Basically figure out what you are going to run in your rig and do your best to guestimate the wattage it will take. Figure 25 watts per hard drive and add up the wattage of your mobo with CPU and video card if you are using one. Then buy the power supply that does the job. If you want to expand later and maybe use a pair of video cards (serious gamers), you may need to go big and get a monster. Just depends on what you want to do with it.

If you stick with the "never exceed 75% of your wattage by design", you should be good. Figure out what your wattage will be and go with it.

As with anything online, read the reviews. Do your due diligence. Stick with known and trusted brands if you don't know any better. If you do that and it goes wrong, just bad luck.

Which way does the fan blow?

I put my hand behind my PC (I have 2 of these installed in two different HP Elite PCs)...I could feel slight air movement on my hand so I believe the fan is drawing air into the P.S. and pushing it out through the rear screen (pictured)...This would make sense since you wouldn't want the warm air being blown into the PC case.

From the pictures, probably (Cable 1) Molex and floppy cable, (Cable 2) Two SATA, (Cable 3) Two SATA, (Cable 4)  PCI-Express 6+2-Pin.

Does this PSU fit a mid tower case and does it have a 4 cpu power connection or just the 8?

It has the 8 pin connector; however, you can plug it in to a 4 connector motherboard as long as there is no physical interference with another part of the mb.  This should not normally be a problem.  You shouldn't have a problem fitting it in a mid-tower case, but not all cases have the same dimensions for a power supply slot.  I use mine in a itx case which is even smaller.

Will this work with a r9 270x and a i5 4590 without problems? I'm only have a HDD, a DVD burner, dual channel RAM and 2 led fans.

I would recommend no less than a 500W power supply for the R9 270X. For future expansion, you may even want to consider 550-600W. I would not recommend anything higher unless you will be running two of the R9 270X in Crossfire.

Current power supply has a Model No of "LPJ2" and a serial no. of C08016868 and is rated at 430W. I guess my question is whether or not the Corsair CXM430M will work as a replacement???

Assuming your current power supply is stock then yes, this power supply will be more than sufficient to power your system. Something to lookout for is how much power your system is taking. I personally use this power supply with a gtx 660 graphics card and an i5. This corsair is also 80+ bronze certified which verifies the power supply for less power waste than a generic power supply.
