Pros: Works great on my Max OS X - Loin - with power management setting to always on for hard disk. Fast as any SSD should be. Better - is the 6 Gbit Link speed. But, remember to have a controller that supports 6 GB Speed. One important thing: Remember to go to your power management setting in OS and make sure that the hard disk has power on always.
Cons: The firmware and Mac OS X Snow Leopard & Lion - don't communicate well on power management. Solution is to set your power properties to ensure that there is power always to the hard disk.
Overall Review: Remember to go to your power management setting in OS and make sure that the hard disk has power on always.
Pros: The EZ Gig IV data transfer kit that comes with the SSD was able to easily copy everything from my old disk drive to this SSD in about 2 hours. The SSD was then easy to install and booted up without any problems. Upon bootup my laptop Vista automatically installed a new driver which required a reboot. The next step was to upgrade the SSD firmware from version 0001 to 002 (available from crucial.com) which requires burning a CD to boot from. The firmware upgrade was easy by booting from the CD and it went well. I recommend setting the disk power saver to NEVER for both AC and battery operation. Performance of the laptop is much improved. The Windows Index went from 2.1 to 3.0.
Pros: -extremely fast
-transfer kit worked flawlessly mirroring primary drive w/ OS
Overall Review: So my primary HDD was dying and I needed a new one. Figured i'd make the jump to SSD. despite hearing horror stories i did my research and thought it would be worth my while. And so far i've been right.
SSD is blazing fast. Windows boots in 5 seconds flat and apps and transfers happen almost instantaneously. I can never go back now.
I was skeptical of Crucial's "Transfer Kit", but it works. Only issue is that you have to use the USB SATAWIRE they give you, and it is kind of slow so if you have a large amount of data the transfer can take a few hours.
But after I used it, I booted from the SSD without any hassle, and I was done.
I only wish that it came with an adapter bay for 3.5" bays. I know this is directed at laptops but I bought this for my PC. So at the moment the SSD is just sitting freely in a bay that is too large for it. I'll have to buy a separate adapter to keep it in place.
Pros: Fast. I was looking for something to speed up my laptop and this delivered.
Installation was pretty simple when you follow the video on Crucial's website.
Cons: The firmware definitely needed to be upgraded from 0001 to 0002. 0001 seemed to cause problems with my system hanging periodically. This all seemed to go away with 0002. The firmware upgrade process was not straight forward for me and I'd say I have average technical knowledge.
The instructions for the transfer kit were OK but could have been better.
Overall Review: Overall I am pretty happy with it. I just wish it had 0002 Firmware.
Put it in an ASUS N61JQ
Pros: Fast! Very Fast! Improves laptop usability; no more stuttering when laptop is under heavy load and there is a lot of disk activity and memory usage is very high.
Cons: Transfer application (EZ-GIG IV) didn't seem to like my dell repair partitions. Had to go to open source application CloneZilla; that worked like a charm.
Overall Review: Now if I could only fit another one in that laptop..
Pros: Installed easily. End up not using the Data cable, did a fresh install. Hard drive set up easily only glitch was with MacAfee. Macafee Caused all sorts of Blue Screens and would not let the computer run at all. Runs as fast if not faster than expected!
Pros: To those complaining about your crucial ssd dieing. Update the firmware. There is a bug that causes it to fail after a certain amount of boot ups.
While this should not be a problem it is, but after using 4 different manufacturers and multiple ssd's from each, Crucial is by far the fastest and most stable other than the shipping with broken firmware.
Cons: the broken firmware
Pros: Easy installation. Super fast boot times. My MacBook Pro boots in about 8-10 seconds from a cold boot. I also added a 16GB RAM upgrade from Crucial. My laptop flys through every task. VMs in Parallels Desktop are a lot faster. Photoshop launches blazing fast. Everything runs super fast. I highly recommend this upgrade.
Cons: None. This SSD has been great!
Overall Review: For reference, the MacBook Pro that I installed this SSD into is a late 2011 MacBook Pro, 2.2GHz quad-core i7. It was very fast and capable before this upgrade, but after, it was like having a whole new computer. Adding the SSD and the 16GB RAM upgrade mean that I can hold onto this system much longer, and get a much beter resale value.
