Pros: The mSATA SSD does exactly what is expected. Moving to SSD, and particularly a PCIe-mounted mSATA may be the best "bank for the buck" performance dollar you can spend.
Pros: Switched from a Crucial 256GB mSATA SSD to a 512GB because I needed more space. Both have been excellent investments. The performance is unmatched. Gave my older 256GB SSD to a co-worker, and he loves it. Says his laptop now boots up in about one-tenth the time it used to require.
Pros: Reasonably fast. Not that expensive.
Cons: Firmware flashing is a pain on computers with a UEFI rather than a BIOS. The hard disks are hardly reliable. (I'm at a 66% failure rate.) Still not as fast as some of the other drives.
Overall Review: I read good reviews about this drive and did my research well ahead of time. I pulled the trigger and bought 3 of them. At this point in time, 2 of the 3 come back as failed to my storage controller. Somehow they still boot and store the data, but their failure prevents booting without power cycling a few times. Clearly there's something wrong with them. They weren't failures on delivery either. This happened over time one after another. I now anticipate the 3rd drive will fail within a month. I haven't spoken to Crucial about this yet, but plan to after the holidays.
After benching these drives, I get about 500 MB/s reads and [a very low] ~200 MB/s writes. And this was my best case test after testing a few times.
I'm running these drives on an Aorus x7v2, which is far more than powerful enough to stretch these drives out on the bench.
..Not happy with this purchase.
Pros: I ordered this for my new shuttle computer. I was careful to check out the compatibility first. It worked will for 2 months.
Cons: Went bad in less then 3 months but used on a motherboard (shuttle) it was designed for!
Overall Review: I already ordered a replacement HD from newegg but it looks like with their present shipping system it will take 10 days to get here.
Pros: Easy to install. Extremely fast.
Cons: I found no negatives for using this product.
Overall Review: I was skeptical about all the claims about booting with an SSD but am very pleased with the results I experienced. I installed a clean copy of Windows 7 on the
SSD and then transferred all my data files to the old C; drive after reformatting it. Once all that was done all my problems went away. My PC now boots in seconds VS minutes before.the installation. Got a great price from Newegg., although the shipping was very slow, thought maybe they shipped it from China on a slow boat. ha ha
Pros: Good speed, Good price to size ratio. Fast as a boot drive for Windows 8.1. Read speed as per crystal disk mark Read 502 MB/s Write 76 MB/s
Cons: Heating up to 70-80C causing the system to crash while the 64GB SSD I have next to it stays cool and has no problems. As of this writing the drive is staying at 42C. After 2 min of benchmark the temp is reading 81C in HWmonitor.
I am not sure what the issue is why there are times it stays cool and other times it gets incredibly hot. I have switched it between the two mSATA ports in my laptop and it is not a port issue, but still could be a configuration issue on my part I suppose. As it functions most of the time and I haven't lost any data I gave it 2/5.
Pros: runs fast, small form factor
Cons: the first one had bad sectors. and would always get sector errors. talked with Crucial tried their SSD utility, it said the drive was ok. crystalmark info said it was ok too. but i continue to get bad sector reading from several other smart analysis software shows bad sectors. received a replacment from newegg same thing bad sectors.
Overall Review: i loved the M4 SSDs but this M550 i'm done with them. can't trust crucial's SSD utility it thinks its fine.
Pros: Replace the "Hard drive acceleration cache" with this in an HP ENVY 4-1015dx because the 500GB hard drive started having write/read errors. Also installed windows 8.1 on it. Now the ENVY starts in seconds! Much better then the original setup.
Cons: None so far.
