sorry it will not come with a adapter, but being a solid state drive thier is no moving parts so all i did was just laid mine inside and had no problems.

does this drive really hold 250gb of useable data?

No. When installing your operating system a partition is created to give control of a program that reads in the boot sector for the operating system.  So after I installed Windows 8.1 Full Version 64 Bit, a partition was created  and set it up with the System Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, and Primary Partition.

Windows 8.1 Full version required 20 GB to install, giving you about 228-230 GB usable storage. Plus you have to factor in any other programs you install also.

After installing, you can always click to Disk Management, which shows you the Capacity after installing Windows or any thing else, plus Free Space available after installing Windows, Games, or what you want installed.

can this drive replace a normal sata  drive?

Yes, this can replace a normal Sata II/III drive, that's what most people buy them for.   If you had a 3.5 inch Desktop drive you are replacing, you will preobably need a mounting bracket to put this into the slot, since the SSD is the size of a laptop drive -- 2.5 inch.  Unless your case has a slot for SSD already.  I don't remember if this was a bare drive or one that comes with a mounting bracket, and the ones that does come with it usually isn't so good anyhow

Hi All,
 The reason I even considered purchasing this MX200 SSD is because my HD has run out of usable storage space at 150G. 
This will give me apprx 90G of breathing room. 
The problem is, I didn't get all the hype everyone else experienced. My boot time and all program launching times are virtually the same as my spinning HD. Granted, I built this computer in '09 and something may be bottlenecking but I find it hard to believe that I'm finding no speed increase converting to SSD. 
I'm running a SATA II Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R board, Intel Quad Q9550 processor and Crucial Ballistics DDR2 800 memory.
My former system drive is a WD Velociraptor SATA III 10,000RPM.
Either this is not saying much for this SSD or it's saying a lot for the Velociraptor.
Any thoughts? Thanks for your answers!

Hi Will,

System performance is based on many factors.  Whether or not you achieve faster performance with your SSD, you likely will find it advantageous in that you will have lower energy costs, not need to defrag, have a cooler system, and longer lasting.

If you don't have SATA 6 on your motherboard, then you will not get the most from your SSD.  But, consider using the SSD as your boot and application drive and a traditional hard drive for your data, etc.

While you list your RAM you don't say how much you have or what OS.  Regardless, you appear to have an aging pc.  Recent pc's typically use DDR3 RAM.  Your CPU was introduced 7 years ago.  A lot has happened, since then.  So, don't fret about your drive performance unless you plan on a new pc.

And, finally, I have this drive.  It works well for me and I recommend it.

If I replace my 1tb 7200rpm HD with the solid state drive will I have to get MS permission to transfer the OS (7 64) to the solid state drive? Will this solid state drive be faster than my current  HD?

Not sure what is meant by 'permission from MS', but if you want to transfer your data using a Crucial product you'll need to purchase Crucial Data Transfer Kit www crucial com/usa/en/ctssdinstallac
Otherwise you'll need to do a fresh install of Windows 7 and all your apps. Even when cloning though, Windows may prompt you to re-activate.  I would also take a look at Samsungs' Evo 850 SSD - it comes with cloning software, but you'll still need to purchase a USB to SATA cable.
As far as faster - definitely yes - at least 10x faster.

What comes in the box? Do it include a SATA data cable and/or SATA power adapter?

The box includes the drive, a shim for laptops that need a thicker drive and a copy of Acronis TrueImage for drive imaging.  SATA cable and power adapter not included.  If you are putting it in a desktop you need to buy a 2.5" to 3.5" tray adapter.

I have an older ASUS P5B Deluxe mb. Any issues with this drive or just plug and play?

As a computer repairman I install a lot of SSD and no longer use magnetic drives for anything less than a terabyte.  I have yet to see a motherboard with SATA ports that will not take a SSD in lieu of a magnetic drive.  Older motherboards using SATA I or SATA II will run a bit slower, but are still compatible.  After trying a lot of manufacturer's SSD I've settled on Crucial as the best of the lot.

Will this fit a macbook pro mid 2010?

Yes it will, as long as the unit you're replacing is a SATA drive. I have one in my MacBook Pro 13". Remember when you replace the old unit, to put all the hardware from the old unit onto the new unit, i.e. the side mounting studs. Good luck, and enjoy the new speed. Also, you might consider maxing out the Memory if you haven't already done so.
