Is there something wrong with these SSD's? So inexpensive?

I have one and found nothing wrong so far. Always the potential for something to go wrong, but Crucial seems to stand by their product. I seem to think that the BX series are being phased out and the MX series, along with newer build tech, will take over. Plus, everyone wants larger capacity drives at reasonable pricing along with speed. 
I would give it a 5 egg rating.

Question 2

Don't they make one for a desktop?   Seems all the SSD drives are assumed to be going in laptops.  Even Crucial's video with instructions for installing the drive was oriented to laptop owners.   There are a couple desktop owners still out here... HULLOOO

Why do you think this would not work in a desktop computer as well as a laptop?

This SSD will work in a desktop or laptop - although your particular desktop may need a drive bay adapter to properly mount such a drive - those are abundant and fairly inexpensive.

I have replaced MANY hard disk drives (HDD) in desktops with solid state drives (SSD) happily, easily and with 20-50% performance increases in most (if not all) cases.  The 2.5 inch vs. 3.5 inch form factor makes little to no difference - just use an adapter to MOUNT the drive physically (the adapter comes with instructions sometimes, although if you know how to hold a screwdriver, you can probably figure it out) and connect the cables (depending on the age of your system or how expandable it is - you may need a power adapter too) and use as you did before.

Ronald I don't see why it wouldn't be compatible as long as you existing drive is SATA based. The link to the software that comes with it did not help me achieve possitive results as far as cloning the drive, but that could have been with the version of Windows 10 I have. I used Macrium Refluct  to clone my drive. You'll need a SATA to USB cable, the brand I got was from STARTECH. I haven't checked the Newegg site to see if they carry it. I went from a 500 gig hard drive  cloned to the 750 gig SSD. After the cloning process I had to extend the partition in Windows 10 to make full use of the new SSD drive. I would give you a link to help you with cloning the drive to a Mac using disk utility but unfortunately Newegg won't allow links which is a disservice to you. I hope you can find some helpful links or YouTube videos which will help you with cloning to a Mac with a SSD drive.!

Question 4

If the sequential/random   read/writes are what is in the information above (Sequential: 530/510 MB/s -- Random: 92k/83k)  you really cannot say do not defrag, right?

I have used the SSD for a year now with a computer that is operating almost 24x7. I just apply regular Windows updates and reboot about once per week. Windows takes care of the fragmentation and performance has not diminished. Using Windows 10 Enterprise

Question 5

Is there a difference in performance between the 750gb version and the 1tb version?  The 750gb version is on sale right now and still $10 more than the 1tb version.

Since I have had mine for almost a year, I find that the 750gb version is fine for me. The 1TB version was cost prohibitive at the time.
If you want the larger drive, then go for it. I have had no issues with my drive so far. A very fast drive. Your best bet is to go to the Crucial web site and double check the specs to be sure. You will need to check the firmware and I suggest that you download their drive checking software if you do purchase one. Good cloning software is important as well, along with any cabling needed.
