Linux drivers on cd
Pros: My first review was a little biased. There is linux drivers on the cd, linux runs great on this board. As a matter of fact linux seems to run better than windows 7 in terms of drivers. (standby didn't work in windows 7 that well) Ubuntu varians shouldn't even need to install them off the cd since they are already included with the distro.(I think they are for red hat anyways) I haven't tested the onboard video because of the uncommon dvi port standard that was used.
Cons: Doesnt use the usual dvi port for the onbloard. Still kind of raging about that. Still dont like the foxcon name on some of the parts. I have owned a foxcon board that self destructed itself because I booted linux on it once. (Not sure if it was a bios mistake or foxcon but it happened.) http://linuxologist.com/1general/even-more-incriminating-evidence-in-the-foxconn-debacle/
Overall Review: The motherboard functions really good. The only thing I didnt like on the layout was where the wifi antennas are, and how the ram is super close to the cpu. I use it for gaming. I paired it with my old nvidia 470, everyhitng is arranged in a way that it stays out of the way of a big video card. I dont like over clocking but it does overclock really well when paired with nice ram.
Dont trust rma
Pros: It is a motherboard
Cons: Asus does not honor their RMA service. I folowed all their instructions on how to package it for an rma, wrote my rma number on the box. They apparently did look at it but they shipped the dead one back. What good does that do? The company where I work will not be buying anymore asus products and I will send an email to others that I work with to not buy asus products if this isn't resolved.
Overall Review: I think there just broke and looking for ways to save themsevles a dollar.
Foxcon ewww
Pros: Turns on and off. Pci-e x16 slot. Has better drivers than my previous asus board had.
Cons: FOXCON name on some of the jacks. FOXCON has designed their boards in the past to self destruct if you run any os besides windows. (when loading linux on some older foxcon boards, the bios gets corrupted. foxcon is somewhat hostile to linux.) I cannot believe asus would put crrapp like that on their board even though it is just a connector. Now that I'm done ranting about that, the normal cons are: Not a standard DVI connector. RAM could not be any closer to cpu. wifi ports are under the audio jacks. regular wifi antennas get in the way. Asus site still slow.
Overall Review: Would it have killed them to use a standard DVI connector?
It runs Hot
Pros: Good drivers, ATI has been getting better but i still would take immature Nvidia drivers over polished ATI drivers. (i own 6 ati card i know what im talking about.) Nice performance increase over the 200 series, even with the immature drivers. its slightly shorter than my 275.
Cons: -Minus 1 egg for saying you will get starcraft 2 when it is not packaged with the product, you have to get the combo deal. The combo is higher price so its not really free. -Minus 1 egg for charging $300 for a product known not to work very good with dual monitors, its basically defective. Runs a little hot for my taste Took 5 days to ship with UPS instead of 3 days.
Overall Review: The only reason I'm buying Nvidia is because of the drivers, I like to have my hardware work in more than just windows. Nvidia makes nice Linux drivers, especially since they are going in MAC hardware now days.
Fast
Pros: This is a follow up: Great performance with good drivers, runs in Linux, will stay cool with V SYNC ON.
Cons: Mine went bad after two weeks, if the card went above 75C for a few minutes it would artifact then crash what i was running. This isn't sparkels' fault, it happens with other companies its just related to the 275. The replacement is working great though
Overall Review: Nice to see a high end card that is still a budget card, after all people want the performance anyways
Pros: It can keep a 125watt quad down to 27C idle with the right thermal past. The fan is quiet and lasts a long time. This is the 3rd pc it has been on. Works with socket am3 down to socket 939.
Cons: The bottom is rough so you need to rub thermal past on it with a glove to work it in, then it should cool a lot better. Grease from your figures messes up the paste.
Overall Review: After rubbing thermal past on, i put the absolute minimum paste on to cover all of the die, after i put it on i twisted it a little to get air bubbles out. Then it cooled just fine.
