large capacity external battery for tablets/smart phones

RAVPower Deluxe 14000mAh Power Bank External Battery Charger for Tablets, Smartphones, and Other Mobile Devices (Black)
RAVPower Deluxe 14000mAh Power Bank External Battery Charger for Tablets, Smartphones, and Other Mobile Devices (Black)

Pros: + 14,000mAH. Plenty of power to charge your smart phone and tablet, SIMULTANEOUSLY. Great for long flights and if you are out and about (running errands, sporting event, amusement park). + dual USB connections: 1Amp (smart phone), 2Amp (tablet); can charge a phone and tablet, simultaneously because of the 14,000mAH battery, albeit slowly. + includes two short coiled USB cables (approx. 11inches in length, un-stretched; can be stretched to maybe 23inches but too tight to be useful). Interchangeable adapters (mini USB, micro USB, Apple 30pin, Samsung 30pin, some Nokia adapter) supplied. + about the size of a smart phone w/ a 4in screen in an Otterbox cover. Exact size is 4-7/8in long, 3-3/16in wide, 7/8in thick. + neutral on the small cloth carrying bag for the battery and cables.

Cons: + Like the small USB cables, but prefer fixed end. Don't like the interchangeable ends, as I can see these getting lost. Ideally just supply a microUSB and Apple 30pin cable. Or, lower the price and no cables. + Could care less about the built in LED flashlight feature. Eliminate this and lower the price.

Overall Review: Love this external charging battery for the 14,000mAH capacity. Have been able to keep my iPad 3 and Droid Bionic powered for use, when the respective internal batteries were low. Charging a smartphone is pretty quick; small capacity internal battery. Charging a tablet takes longer b/c its a larger capacity battery. Charging a tablet and smartphone simultaneously, takes time, and you will notice that the tablet seems to charge faster than the smartphone. Charging always goes faster if the device is off or not being used.

GREAT External Battery Charger

RAVPower Deluxe 14000mAh Power Bank External Battery Charger for Tablets, Smartphones, and Other Mobile Devices (Black)
RAVPower Deluxe 14000mAh Power Bank External Battery Charger for Tablets, Smartphones, and Other Mobile Devices (Black)

Pros: + Large 14,000mAH battery capacity! Simultaneously charge a tablet AND smartphone, or a single device. If the device(s) is/are in use while charging, charge rate is slow compared to non-use/powered off. + dual USB ports (2Amp & 1Amp) + 4 LED battery charge condition + LEAVE your AC wall charger when you go out. You are no longer tied to an AC outlet. + Includes two small (12 inch) coiled USB cables; approximately 15 inches stretched out. Some people may like the included interchangeable ends (mini USB, micro USB, Apple 30pin, Samsung 30pin, Nokia). + Available in black or white.

Cons: - Built in LED flash light; I could do without this feature. - Would prefer the included USB cables to have fixed ends, not the interchangeable ends.

Overall Review: No problem charging my smartphone (Motorola Droid Bionic) and tablet (iPad 2 or iPad 3) simultaneously or individually. As expected, charge rate is slow if device(s) in use while charging. I wish I had only bought the maximum allowable quantity when this device was on sale for $38 in late September 2013. Would have made great Xmas gifts.

VANTEC UGT-CR935 USB 3.0 Multi-Memory Internal Card reader
VANTEC UGT-CR935 USB 3.0 Multi-Memory Internal Card reader

Pros: *Relatively cheap for USB 3.0 ($25 on 11/29/2012). *Read/Write speeds increased compared to my old USB 2.0 card reader. Lexar Professional SDHC 32GB class 10 card was used on an old 2.0 and the current 3.0 card reader. Testing program was "H2testw," (Available online). USB 3.0: 21.2MB/s READ, 18.4MB/s WRITE USB 2.0: 19.2MB/s READ, 17.0MB/s WRITE *Can Read/Write from SD to microSD (and visa versa); apparently some card readers can't do this and this. *Can not provide microSD speed comparison as I only recently received this microSD card, and don't have any speed testing data with my old USB2.0 card reader.

Cons: *Cheaper would be better. Probalby in a year USB3.0 readers these will be in the teens.

Overall Review: Did not test the other card slots (CF, Memory Stick, etc), as I only have SD and microSD cards. Did not test the USB 3.0 slot on this reader, as I do not have a USB 3.0 flash memory or USB 3.0 external hard drive.
