How long have you had it? Is it still working?

I have this memo reader about 6 months ago, and the only problem was when with my wet hands i put a micro SD memory on the device and i felt a little electric discharge on my finger...
I freak out, the memory was not reeded and i try some others and nothing works.
Then, i rebooted and works againg, BUT not the M2 reading that uses the same slot than micro SD, so with my mistake i "broke" somehow this memory reader.
The rest of the device still works fine, and i choose it because it's one of the few USB 3.0 readers, it's from an important brand like Vantec, and his desing it's very simple.
I recommend it!

compatible with windows 8.1?

Only running Windows 7, but has not worked with that either. I would say to purchase a different one or use a USB card reader.

Will this internal card reader work with my existing Asus p5qc motherboard?

If your motherboard has a USB header on it (and it appears your's does) then it will.  USB 3.0 is backwards compatible with USB 2.0
