Razer Orbweaver Gaming Keypad
  • neweggOwned For: 1 month to 1 year

4 out of 5 eggs Great, but... 01/26/2014

This review is from: Razer Orbweaver Gaming Keypad

Pros: I use the orbweaver under my right hand and a G13 under my left (previously had a n52te under my right hand). Having two keypads of different manufacturers allows this.

The adjustable rests make configuring the keypad for right hand use doable. The thumb-hat becomes a pinkie-hat (I use the side button for PTT).

Between the two devices, I can never touch the mouse for most situations, and I keep the mouse available for my left hand when it's needed (leftie naga for that).

Cons: Only one, but it's a big one: The keycaps fall off, a lot (which can be a real problem in the middle of a fight). Perhaps it's an artifact of the "stealth" version, but it's the only "con" I have for this device.

Other Thoughts: I would buy it again, if this one failed, though I'd likely get the non-stealth version in case the keycap issue is limited to the stealth version.

Pros: It's faster than my old Linksys router.

Cons: If I weren't tech savvy, I'd not have any use out of this garbage.

DNS Relay doesn't work (well, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't). Turning it off (figured this one out the first week) is required for some web sites to just randomly stop being found.

The internal HD stopped being recognized about 2 months into ownership. Sometimes I can still access it (though the device says there isn't any internal HD) and sometimes I can't.

The provided backup software is stupidly slow. Copying via Explorer works much better.

Overall, this device has no redeeming qualities.

Other Thoughts: It's a shame, too, because WD used to be a name I can trust. But this device is really bad. Just plain bad. I've updated the firmware regularly and stayed current. The only thing I haven't done is factory reset and/or reformat of the hard drive. Those come next, though I'm concerned I'll be left with no router at all.

It's such a good idea -- router and NAS. Alas, WD failed to deliver on it.

Pros: None

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have the monitor running through an IOGear dual-view DL DVI KVM. Switching between my gaming PC and my work laptop and back and it switches back into 3D just fine.

Keys here are to use the supplied DVI cable (the one with the stubbed pin) and to unplug/replug the KVM after attaching the monitor, so it has the correct ID code cached. Works very well.
