USB 3.0 Still Unreliable!

ASRock Z68 EXTREME4 GEN3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
ASRock Z68 EXTREME4 GEN3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Works great with i5-2500k.

Cons: USB 3.0 is REALLY Unrealiable...will connect to devices but drops connection.

Overall Review: Just a update to my prior review. I mentioned USB 3.0 works but just barely. I have a WD My Book and WD My Passport Essential USB 3.0 external drive along with Bytecc USB 3.0 HD enclosure. I find most of the time time I simply plug into the USB 2.0 ports since it's simply frustrating to wait for the device to connect and once connect when transferring there will be times the connection will drop. Firmware 1.1 upgraded...still and problem. I don't know if it's the Etron controller, but this is simply not reliable. As another aside, since I mentioned my dual Win7 boot and for those of you than run into a crash on the system and have the Intel SRT cache, do a CTRL-I on boot to turn off the SSD cache before you try to do a Windows 7 recovery. My system crashed after the stupid USB 3.0 stopped transferring and I rebooted only to loose my Bootloader. Win 7 recovery will only recover the appropriate boot drive if Intel SRT is turned off.

Died after Firmware Upgrade + RMA horror show

Pros: Worked out of box and after that the nighmare started. Wife complained of dropped connections, so I firmware upgraded and it bricked. Tried to get it back fro the dead via recovery mode but it would not reset. Sent RMA but Newegg and created a nightmare of an experience.

Cons: RMA process from hell. Missing an item so I told them I'd rather that a restocking charge and send me credit. They tried to send rje item back and recalled it. Since then, no one has been able to close my RMA and issue credit. Waiting and waiting. Chatting and Chatting...nada for almost a month.

Overall Review: RMA process from hell and still waiting for my credit despite promise last week from rep to get it resolved. Will never buy anything again that I even have the potential to return given the horrible experience. My money is hostage to Newegg and they won't follow-up on on their part of the process.

Pros: Seems to have all the right features and good reviews on Newegg...but....

Cons: I installed this in my newly built system...worked great at first but recently changed motherboard and re-installed it. However, on reinstall it was completely dead! Doesn't power up with both with internal and external USB cables. Very surprised as there was no way I could have damaged the device.

Overall Review: Glad it's <30days and I can RMA for refund...

External USB 3.0 Doesn't Work

ASRock Z68 Extreme4 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
ASRock Z68 Extreme4 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Well featured motherboard.

Cons: Not everything works.

Overall Review: I got this motherboard for a new i5-2500k build. Installed all the latests drivers and updated BIOS. First challenge was the lousy Intel HD graphics drivers which did not recognized my Viewsonic monitor in DVI mode. Ultimately that was solved by getting a GTX 460 video card which was what I was planning to do anyways. I guess this is actually Intel's fault. Second more critical issue is regarding the external USB 3.0 ports. Very strange that the back two USB 3.0 ports recognized my USB 3.0 devices (WD My Book and My Passport Essential) but the front external ports will not. They do work find with USB 2.0. So this is definitely an issue with Asrock. I suspect there may be a defect in the front USB 3.0 controller or the cable. Will be RMA'd and will report if this resolves the issue. Not happy that this will be at my expense.
