Pros: The only pro is that it is cheap
Cons: Bad quality
Horrible customer service
Other Thoughts: I bought two of the 3TB version of this drive and both have them have failed and one of them failed twice. The first one failed roughly 6 months in and the second one roughly a year. While I was able to get them replaced, Toshiba customer service is terrible. The first time I called them I ended up spending the better part of 3 hours getting transferred around to 3 different numbers, each number saying that the drive wasnt covered by their particular helpdesk and to call another number. I eventually got ahold of someone that actually knew what they were doing and finally got them to replace it. The next time when the other drive went bad I still had all three numbers but I couldnt remember which one was the final number where I finally got help so i had to go through that whole process of getting transferred around again. Luckily it only took about an hour the second time around. Once the third failure occurred I just replaced the Toshiba drive with a Red Western digital drive and I have now officially sworn off of ever buying anything from Toshiba again. I used these drives in a file server that has 30TBs of hard drive storage. I have a total of 10 hard drives in the machine for storage and 1 for the OS. I have Seagates, Western Digitals, HGSTs, and originally had those 2 Toshiba hard drives in it. That file server has been up and running for about 6 years now and Other than the 3 Toshiba drive failures the only other hard drive Ive had go belly up on me was a seagate but that seagate drive had been in use in my original file server that I had before the new one for a couple of years so I got a good 5-6 years of use out of it before it died. That is an acceptable failure rate. All 3 of the Toshiba drive failures i had occurred within the first 1.5 years of use and they were new when i rebuilt the server. I said all that just to show how horrible the failure rates are compared to quality seagate, western digital, and HGST drives. I would strongly urge you not to buy any hard drives from Toshiba...or anythign else for that matter.READ FULL REVIEW
Cons: flimsy, no support for long GPUs, screws strip really easily.
Other Thoughts: Ive worked with my fair share of cheap computer cases over the years building systems for people and most of the cheap cases are ok for the money but this thing here is probably the worst cheap case Ive ever worked with. Three screws holes have already stripped out from being hand tightened and one of them is one of the thumb screws so I wasnt even using a screw driver for that one. Its also the first mid-sized ATX case that Ive run across that has issues with extended GPUs. In the past Ive never had a problem with that in mid or full size ATX cases. Its so cheap that when my customer saw it and I explained the problems with it (he was warned in advance that the case he wanted was very cheap and could be problematic because of that) he decided to just say scrap it and order me a better case. Thats pretty bad when a user who is on an extremely tight budget and knew in advance he was ordering a lot of cheap parts say "scrap it and buy a different one" thats a pretty bad case right there. :(READ FULL REVIEW
Pros: They were on sale when I bought em. That about the only good thing I have to say about these.
Cons: I bought 2 of these 12 months and 1 week ago. The first one failed after maybe 6 or 7 months and the second one just failed today.
If that wasnt bad enough when I called Toshiba to get an RMA on the drives I got transferred back and forth between 3 different departments about 8 different times before I finally got ahold of someone who took responsibility for it. All three departments kept saying that they didnt deal with this particular model of hard drive. Turns out the first number I called was apparently the correct one O_o.
Then to add insult to insult to injury the company wanted me to pay for the return shipping of the defective item. I got news for you Toshiba and every other manufacturer, If I buy your product and the stupid thing fails within the warranty period then you better sack up and make it right. Its not my fault the drives died premature deaths. Ive been an IT professional since the early 90s so dont try and put your terrible manufacturing quality problems on me. Im not paying for your mistakes. I'll pay for my mistakes which in this case was buying these terrible drives but warranty returns are no my responsibility. If you try and make it my responsibility then youve just lot a customer. I almost always stick to WD and Seagate for my HDDs and now Im paying for going against my own better judgement for the sake of trying to save some money.
Other Thoughts: Toshiba's customer service sucks as bad as these HHDsREAD FULL REVIEW
