Question 1

Do these have built in storage for video? What is the storage capacity?

Accepted Answer

No, this model is not the one with onboard storage, you would need to choose the model from D-Link with the SD card option for that. But, I do have it set up to email me three pictures before and three pictures after a motion detection alert, so that helps with the non record feature. The email is sent just short of instantaneously with the pictures attached when it picks up motion and then I can quickly connect to see the live footage if I am aware or inquire further.

As for the person who can't get it to work via wifi, I have all four of mine via wifi with WPA2 security and a 26 character long password with no problems. Do note, if you have a WiFi MAC filter enabled on your router, you will need to add the camera's MAC address to the filter list if you have it set for only list of MACs allowed to connect to WiFi (as I do) BEFORE you set it up initially. Also, if your router has a WPS button, you can use that as well (after adding MAC, if need be) to skip the whole password entering process.

You press the WPS button on the camera first (for 4 secs I believe) and then the WPS button on your router. They'll flash till they're done, it usually takes about 2-5mins for me for each. You'll know it's done when the light turns green from red. Also, be sure not to have it connected to your ethernet  cable when doing the WPS, it won't work.

Question 2

Do I need a D-Link account to access the camera remotely?  Can it be access directly through my ISP from the Internet, like all my other IP cameras (just specify the IP and port number used)?

No, you don't have to use the D-Link account. I have used icam and have also just accessed the cameras by pointing a browser at the camera' IP address/port. The nice thing about using the D-Link account is that you don't have to open up a port in your firewall to access the camera from outside your local network.

can i install this in a nursing home setting? am able to access internet wirelessly only

Yes. As the matter a fact, I have one of mines placed right on the crib. You can connect the wifi using the secure quick connect button in the back and then press same button in your router ( hopefully your router uses this technology). Still need to plug the power but it's only a few volts which should be safe enough. The mic addition also makes it ideal for baby/ nursing room  monitoring.

Why is Ethernet cable needed?

I used to facilitate first setup. (Use direct pc connect) to configure wireless service, then you can unplug and you are done.
You can use the wps auto configure feature if router supports it.
Otherwise cable is not needed...

Can you record video with this equipment or is additional equipment or software required?

This camera will record video/jpegs without additional software (you configure the settings via the mydlink web interface). You can chose where to save the recordings (to a hard drive, NAS (network attached storage device) or thru an FTP (file transfer protocol). Recording can be activated by motion, sound or by a schedule you set. There are no costs for using the interface.

Does the DCS  932L record video?

not onboard... there is a different model that you put a card into and it will record to the card. if that's what you mean... otherwise it will record but to wherever you've set it up to record to.

Question 7

Is there any adapters that allow you to extend the power cord or does the mfr make a longer power cord for longer runs to a power outlet? Also does the IP work well and allow you to store video on your computer for say if you had a dedicated computer running the included software?

I also have some Wansview & Foscam wireless IP day/night cameras and was wondering if anyone has used them alongside the D-Link ones here? If so would the software from D-Link would be compatible?

The power cable that comes with the item is long, depending on how long you need it, but consider a simple extension cable. You can store the video however you must manually pull the date range you want, it will not save to the computer automatically unfortunately.

Can i use this with POE for power?

Unfortunately not, I attempted this in several ways however the unit either shuts down after a while or it does not record video, i attempted with an external POE adapter. The unit ultimately only works with the power cable.

Has anyone used these outside near salt water?  I'm looking for a simple solution for monitoring a pool for kids sneaking in but worried about the camera quickly corroding.

It is not an outdoor camera.  However, I am using it as such under patio and entry cover.  My concern is the cold.  When it falls below freezing I plan to remove them to inside temporarily, which is very easy to do.  One CON I see is the camera does not have a wide field of view.

What is the length of the power cord?

The power cord seems quite long.  Mine can easy be on the fireplace mantel and still reach a wall outlet with no problem.  I have had no reason to measure it as one could always put it on an extension cord.  Its a simple two prong plug.
