I bought this for my 9800x3d. Went with the Tomahawk over others because it includes some future proofing that would allow it to last through another potential AM5 upgrade. So things like two pcie5, usb4, wifi7.
- Holds parts in its slots
This was my first build in 8 years and I feel like things are a lot easier. Board has features to make your life easy with error codes, LED for what could be wrong, power/Reset right on the board.. It's great!
- 3x M.2 (separate one for Wi-Fi module) - No gap between top PCIe and M.2, so GPU fits into top slot of PC case - Expo (XMP) was enable and go for my G.SKILL Trident Z5 Neo RGB Series (AMD Expo) DDR5 RAM 64GB (2x32GB) 6000MT/s CL30-40-40-96 1.40V Kit - Had no VRM coil whine, results may vary though reading through other reviews
Great motherboard, as always, from MSI. I've always loved this line of motherboards. The new MSI Center is a significant improvement over the dragon center from previous generations. It is clean and runs faster than ever before.
Good price for the features Nice looking board Easy installation Lots of headers Diagnostic LEDs
- A lot of built in features from USB C to WIFI 7 - Always a fan of the GIGABYTE quality
Overall the board seems very good. Good heat sinks on nvme m.2 slots. Larger sinks are put on the gen 5 slot also. Lots of headers for fans, rgb, usb, and sata. Usb 4 ports on back are nice for a touch screen monitor using one usb-c cable, and seem fast for external nvme drives. There is also a 30 watt usb-c port which is handy. All the external ports are 10gbps, except both the usb 4 ports are 40gbps, and the ethernet port is 5g. The wifi 7 works great as does the Bluetooth also.
Toolless primary m.2 install 2 additional m.2's that need a screwdriver and additional heatsync 4 sata
Debug code for easy debugging solid PCIE slots all white components PCIE and m.2 easy install/uninstall
The ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme is hands down one of the most powerful and feature-rich AM5 motherboards on the market. Its a showpiece for open-case builds. 🚀 Performance & Overclocking Powered by a robust 20+2 teamed power stage VRM setup and massive heatsinks, the X670E Extreme handles overclocking like a champ. Whether youre pushing a Ryzen 9 7950X or a 7800X3D, stability and thermals remain excellent. 🔌 Connectivity & Features This board checks every box: Dual PCIe 5.0 x16 slots Five M.2 slots (including Gen 5 support) Wi-Fi 6E, 10Gb Ethernet, and Bluetooth 5.2 USB4 and tons of high-speed rear I/O You also get the ROG Gen-Z.2 add-in card, which adds more M.2 storage flexibility and cooling. Everything is laid out logically and with ease of use in mind.
This motherboard has plenty of connections, including multiple RGB headers if you are into that, and at least 2 M.2 PCI slots, one with a heatsink and one without.
Smol footprint. Perfect for cube computer!
It's very easy to install everything into it, and it looks great, has a ton of memory slots, the GPU bracket has a lever that can be used to remove it. RGB lights at the bottom right of it.
- No lane sharing with GPU PCIe slot (2nd M.2 slot shares bandwidth with USB 4 ports) - Wi-Fi 7 - Bluetooth 5.4 - EZ PCIe release - Toolless design for installing and removing M.2 - Built in M.2 heatsink - PCIe 5.0 - Sleek white aesthetic design with RGB dragon logo
-5 M.2 Sockets -EZ Release Design - One of the few ATX form factor among the new boards -Full backing plate
It works and functions, No random blue screens or slow boots for no reason other than memory training. Getting a working motherboard is half battle when it comes to buying a motherboard. The Asus BIOS/UEFI is always a gem and fun to work with. The SP score feature Asus has been using for these last few years is always a fun. SlimSAS slot is useful
Definitely some headache with RAM at 6,000 - Newest firmware fixes these boot issues. AI tweaker -> DCOP 2 (or whatever the acronym) and it will work fine with the RAM included. Don't use the m2_2 slot or it cuts your pci bandwidth in half for your video card.
- PCIe5 x16 - PCIe4 x1 - Gen 5 SSD - Heatsink for all SSD - Wifi 7
I'm building my first PC in 20 years (for my 13yo son, who is getting into PC gaming) and yeah... Things have REALLY changed in the last 20 years. But this MSI motherboard made it an absolute breeze. Everything is clearly labeled and well placed, getting everything plugged in and connected was super straightforward. Build quality really feels outstanding. Plenty of connectors for all your fan/RGB needs, and while this isn't super important, it really looks great too!
