Plug and play! I watched a few YT videos for set up tips but otherwise it worked perfectly right out of the box. My GF likes it so much she is about to buy the same exact set up from CustomTechSales. I have no NAS experience to compare this to other NASes but this was effortless and I can't imagine how it could be easier on the end user. Packaging and shipping were flawless. I highly recommend this set up.
Performs the bare minimum. Solid entry level NAS. Room for expansion with proprietary or third party units.
Unit comes with 8 mb of RAM. Upgrading to 32 was easy and allowed use of the more advanced QTS Hero software.
Asustor made expanding their NAS servers as easy as possible. Insert drives, connect power and USB, configure through ADM, done. I was not expecting the performance of drives in the expansion unit to match those in the main NAS itself. When connected to an AS6202T, there was absolutely no difference in throughput for equivalent drives in the expansion unit in either JBOD or RAID 1 operation. This was with both network adapters connected and either a single workstation hammering the NAS through a 10GbE link or multiple machines active at once. When I connected the AS6004U expansion unit to an AS6210T having quad 1GbE adapters enabled, I again saw no difference in transfer speeds in JBOD or RAID 1 mode vs. drives in the main enclosure, but there was a measurable (10-30%) reduction in speed accessing a RAID 10 array of 7200K drives. Not bad performance - Asustor is making the most of their USB 3 connection. The expansion itself unit stays quiet even under load when the fan is set to Auto. Swapping the expander between NAS head units was possible, although ADM complained and maintaining existing arrays takes work. If you are only connecting to a single NAS, that's a non-issue.
I checked other sources but found Newegg.com to offer the best price. Their web site is easy to follow and shipping was quick. As for the product, Synology products are all top notch. I purchased the DS1522+ (diskless) and I couldn't be happier with it.
- Very easy set up but you must download the software from manufactures site. - Overall very simple to use once you figure it out. - Excellent for first time users or people on a budget. - 2.5 GbE allows very fast transfer if you have a 2.5GbE network.
I really like all the upgrade options the AS6706T has, especially the M.2 SSDs & Memory.
- Rackmount - Minimal dept (works with shallow racks) - Good cooling - Possibility of 2 PSU - Possibility of extra disks units *. - SSH is available for advanced system admin**. *Read well on Synology website if you are planning to use it. ** DSM is NOT a regular linux release, so make SURE you know what you are doing. Happy to have 6 gb total all working ; didnt want to take a risk to go above 6 gb that isnt on the compatibility list
This QNAP runs quickly and quietly. The VM is Microsoft Server 2019, and it is very fast. I have it configured to boot off of a RAID-1 SSD drive array, and the AMD Ryzen processor is very fast. Adding RAM and the SSD drives was EASY. Very nice design on the case, easy access 3 screws and that was it. I added five 16-TB drives in RAID-5, and it is used as a Veeam Offsite Repository target server.
