NICE MB as expected from ASUS
Pros: After much research, I decided to to jump in and purchase this MB for my new build. I wanted an RGB capable MB that would look good with my white case EVGA DG-76. Although not perfect, this MB met my expectations with minor cons that were not a priority and could be corrected (see cons below). I have been using ASUS MB for over 25 years without disappointments and this one was pretty much what I expected. I wont get into the features I like which are almost everything and you can read them from ASUS and other reviews. The software updater is a nice feature. The BIOS is easy to navigate with many OC options I'm just beginning to play with. It looks beautiful in my case and the RGB software Aura plays very nice and controls my 32 gigs of GSkill RGB memory except that memory does not stop lighting when in sleep mode. I am sure this will be fixed. Overall I am very happy with my choice with exception below.
Cons: My biggest beef and disappointment is the sound quality of this MB. It leaves lots to be desired and sub part from all previous ASUS MB I have build with. I cant understand how this otherwise awesome MB fails on this. I guess I may need to be on the market for a sound card.
Overall Review: I would recommend this product to others as long as they can live with the poor sound quality. other than this, I am loving all other features of this MB and look forward to the longevity and quality performance ASUS is famous for. I would have given 5 eggs to this product if sound was not so disappointing.
Not Ready, May Never be...
Pros: Metro could become something , one day if and only if Microsoft tablets with Windows interface prevail. Except it won't happen...(see Cons). No real pros worth mentioning and it appears this will be another Win Vista at best. Skip and wait for better if it comes. Win 7 still Rocks over this.
Cons: Microsoft is way behind the times in mobile tablet applications, example, Win RT is a failure. Too late for this market for Microsoft. Apple and Android dominate the market and nothing beats the Apple mobile OS. Win 8 is nothing more than an awkward Win 7 hidden under a cute want to be Metro interface. I played with the Beta version for a while and did not convince me.
Overall Review: I have been a PC avid lover and hardware hobby builder for over 20 years. However, since the advent of the iPhone and iPad, I have been playing with Mac OS more and more due to its ease of use, efficiency and friendly character. my family of 4 each of us own iPhones and iPads and they all integrate and play exceptionally. with my kids Mac laptops and a mac Mini I also own. My own powerhouse computer that I built 2 months ago is a PC running Win 7 64 that is my preferred machine. Bottom line, Windows to me is a work environment (I am no gamer), Mac is my play environment. I have the best of both worlds and they even talk to each other on my Home network.
DG-76 Almost a Perfect Case - White
Pros: The case is minimalist, beautiful and different, the reason I purchased it. The clear glass window displays lighting beautifully, the all white interior enhances every component. I installed some blue 120 Thermaltake LED fans in it for now and they show incredibly beautifully through the clear glass, RGB coming later. Ventilation is good with the 4 fans I installed although fans are behind a glass front opaque panel. Space is adequate for basic components, no water cooling in mine. The DG-76 glass label is a sticker and interchangeable with other color stickers provided but of good quality.
Cons: Being used to building with Lian Li cases for over 25 years, the quality of some of the components if this case leave you wondering and disappointed. Rear panel is plastic and cheap. SSD mounts are plastic and very tight to mounting surface which makes wiring with tandem power supply strand impossible. I had to use individual runs for each as only the last one works. The EVGA lighted logo sits behind opaque front panel and does not show through glass, a waste unless you take front glass panel off. The side one is visible in a very dimmed blue, almost white, could have been more intense blue. Now, mine came without MB screws as the supplied kit did not work with standoff, had to use my own. Also, mine did not come with the interchangeable face "E" bolts that hold glass panes as advertised. It seems there are some QC issues with packaging. Air filters are kind of cheap but usable. Drives compartment that it is not shown in pics is for a reason, it comes with cheap plastic SSD/HDD mounts and is tight, although there are many options on how to route power to components. I expected better from EVGA.
Overall Review: This has been the most challenging case I have ever used in a build for the reasons explained above. However, I knew about most of these challenges and still purchased this case when it was on sale below 100 bucks. The primary reason for my decision was aesthetics. This case raises eye brows with friends and I was looking for a "Show Piece" to show off to my old friends, most of whom know little about computers anyway but they are amazed. I used an old Asus P8 Z77 MB setup for now but I will be performing a total component upgrade with RGB components soon. If the aesthetics of this case captivate you, by all means buy it and use it. Just be aware of what you will be up against during build, nothing a creative builder can not overcome.
A Beutiful thing...
Pros: This case is all you would want in a case, easy to build, plenty of space for cable management and a modern minimalist look. Air flow is very good, provided fans are relatively low noise and smooth operating. I will be replacing these for some RGB though just for looks. The projected Silverstone logo is very cool and futuristic, one of the reasons I purchased this case. I have been building computers for over 25 years and I never built with an easier case than this. The case built quality is superb, everything is high quality, paint job, glass panel, etc. The look is different than most cases, another reason for my choice.
Cons: Cant think of any except front panel is a bit hard to remove. Some reviews say it has poor airflow due to the solid perforated front but with the 140mm fans at front, top bottom and rear and opportunity for water cooling I can't see why this would be an issue.
Overall Review: I highly recommend this case as it offers plenty of opportunity for a high end build.
Good Basic MB
Pros: Easy to install and configure. BIOS is very user friendly and easy to overclock with. I have Intel G3258 OC to 4.19 on air running fresh install of Win 10 Pro 64 and no issues. This combination of MB and chip is a sure thing and the best value package I have discovered.
Cons: None that I can think of.
Overall Review: This is a basic MB but it has all the latest basic features.
Good product-Good value
Pros: Small low profile card that gives a punch. Loaded it in old Duo Core 2 775 system w/Win 10 used as HTPC and displays 1080P content without a problem. I am now building a new system to replace this one and I am sure will work even better with PCI 3 bay. I am not a gamer so can't comment on this. Great value for the money, reputable Asus manuf. All my builds are Asus motherboard based. Now I know they can make a good video card.
Cons: None that I can see. Installation including software drivers and AMD Catalyst were fast and flawless.
Overall Review: Installation including software drivers and AMD Control panel were fast and flawless.
