Grand-Daddy of all Air-Coolers for 1366 cpu's

Noctua NH-D14, Premium CPU Cooler with Dual NF-P14 PWM and NF-P12 PWM Fans (Brown)
Noctua NH-D14, Premium CPU Cooler with Dual NF-P14 PWM and NF-P12 PWM Fans (Brown)

Pros: • Has more pipes than my grandpa • Blows more air than my grandpa (and that ain't easy) • Keeps things cool like my grandpa • Easy to seat like my grandpa • Sound deadening material for the fans .... yep... my grandpa has those. However, they are called diapers for him.

Cons: • Pipes not exposed to touch CPU. There have been reviews that this actually helps (maybe a negligible amount). I would have been curious to see if it would have brought down the temps another 1 or 2 c. But honestly, just buy another fan for it so you have 3 all pushing in the same direction... or upgrade all to higher CFM... then you'll see some temp drop. • Not full copper... However, I could only imagine the price if it was... (and weight... it's already heavy)

Overall Review: They should make a limited edition of this with exposed pipes and full copper block/fins. I'd buy one. It would probably break air-cooling records. Either way, it's the best Air-Cooling CPU cooler I've had to date. It even out-preformed some of my base water cooling solutions.

WD Black 5TB Performance Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6Gb/s 128MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD5001FZWX
WD Black 5TB Performance Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6Gb/s 128MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD5001FZWX

Pros: Big and Black. Just the way I like it... in my... Computer case!!! Got two of these puppies in Raid1 for redundancy. Lots of disk activity even when not copying.. but that's because Raid1 is always trying to mirror, so don't let this alarm you. It's normal. (for those putting these in Raid1's). I've had all sorts of WD black drives over the years. I don't bother with the hype of the blue, red, green, etc... The black's not only perform better... but they have NO lifespan issues. You get what you pay for!

Cons: They indeed get hot. Without a fan... they'd probably get alarmingly hot.

Fantastic! Pun intended

Prolimatech PRO-USV14 140mm Ultra Sleek Vortex Fan
Prolimatech PRO-USV14 140mm Ultra Sleek Vortex Fan

Pros: Blows good air Nice hum at high rpm. Not annoying. Slim! PWM! Perfect for the Fractal 500 mini ITX case. You can get a slim Optical Disc drive and two of these fans and you'll have plenty of intake air!!

Cons: none!!!

Not compatible in all orientations

Noctua NH-U12DXi4 120mm SSO2 CPU Cooler
Noctua NH-U12DXi4 120mm SSO2 CPU Cooler

Pros: Performs well on motherboards/cases that fit it I suppose.

Cons: Looked up ram clearance, case clearance... all was well until it came in and I tried to orient it so that the fan on the heat sink blows in the same direction as the case exhaust fan (common flow sense). I have a Fractal 500 mini ITX case, and an Asrock x99 ITX board. Was really looking forward to having this thing work for my xeon E5 2699 v3 18-core cpu. But unfortunately the way it is laid out, the heat pipes slam right into the memory. It may have been possible to orient it 90 degrees to have the heat sink fan blowing up... but then I'd have to reverse all fan directions in the case, and the cpu can wouldn't be getting any fresh air as it would be nearly on top of the graphics card.

Overall Review: There should be a better "compatibility check system" for these heat sinks... especially with all the craze with smaller cases. Some people don't want water cooling, and they want to get their CPU as cool as possible in the smallest space possible. I ended up getting the NH-U9dxi4 to work after bending up some of the fins on the cooler out of the way of the ram since the ram clearance on the u9 is less. Works perfectly in my setup as the second 92mm noctua fan sits right by the 140mm rear exhaust case fan. Top fans blow down cool air and the air flow is in the form of a wide 90 degree angle. Perfect. Just wish the u12 worked. Measure everything!
