Good Graphics Card

BFG Tech GeForce 7950GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI Support Video Card BFGR7950256GTOCE
BFG Tech GeForce 7950GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI Support Video Card BFGR7950256GTOCE

Pros: This is an awesome graphics card. I researched the Nvidia 8 Series cards and settled for this as they are faster than many mid range 8 series card, cheaper and runs a lot cooler. The Linux drivers for 8 series are still flaky and so I settled for this. I do not play games so it does not matter to me much. Changed the VGA cooler to Zalman VF700 and it runs much cooler and quieter.

Cons: None noticed

Overall Review: My other PC has 6800XT and many times I have noticed (especially during browsing) that page transitions are not always smooth. When I click fast and move between pages, sometimes I noticed the screen becoming garbage before the new page was displayed. With this card I did not notice that at all. EVGA 680XLI, Intel Q6700, Patriot 4GB extreme, WD 150GB Raptor, Samsung 500GB HD, Samsung 226Bw, BFG Nvidia 7950GT, noctua nh-u12F heat sink, zalman VF700 cooler

DOA

SAMSUNG STORY Station 3.0 2TB USB 3.0 3.5" External Hard Drive HX-DT020EB/B62 Dark Gray
SAMSUNG STORY Station 3.0 2TB USB 3.0 3.5" External Hard Drive HX-DT020EB/B62 Dark Gray

Pros: - Huge Capacity - Seemed a good build

Cons: - DOA - Windows 7x64 bit did not recognize this drive. - Every attempt to format including Samsung's Format Utility failed. - Even Samsung's utility did not recognize the drive. - Review sites say security software does not work on 64 bit - Talked to Samsung tech support and they agreed I got a bad drive

Overall Review: - Would have loved to see this work as it is right price/capacity and USB 3.0 - Had to go thro' 2 RMAs and talk to Newegg agent to avoid Restocking fee, Return shipment. - Going through online RMA process automatically adds 13$ Mailing fee and 21$ Restocking. Have to be careful about the RMA. - New Egg CSR was very helpful and whole thing was resolved in few mts. Shipped it back within 2 hours of receiving. - Since it is a fairly a new product, I am going to wait for more people to buy, software to be fixed for 64 bit before reordering it.

Stopped working within 6 months

Mushkin Enhanced Reactor 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MKNSSDRE256GB
Mushkin Enhanced Reactor 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MKNSSDRE256GB

Pros: Seemed good when worked

Cons: I installed this 6/1/2015 and today on 12/12/2015 it just quit. I had opensuse 13.2 installed and it was running good. Right in the middle of day it just stopped working while the machine was running. Tried different cables, different machines. The bios is not recognizing this hard disk anymore. Piece of junk. Now I have to completely rebuild my OS, file shares etc from scratch.

Overall Review: Trying to replace this with something else

Great Motherboard supports Xeon CPUs

ASRock Fatal1ty Z97 Professional LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
ASRock Fatal1ty Z97 Professional LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: - Excellent layout - Plenty of Ports - Supports newer Xeon CPUs - Saves significant cost by letting Xeon run using non-ECC memory (DDR3 as well) - Simplest installation - Great UEFI interface

Cons: none noted now

Overall Review: I also have another ASRock Z97 Pro motherboard (not fatality series) that has i7 4790 installed. That has been running for over 9 months without any issue.

Great server CPU at affordable price

Intel Xeon E3-1246 v3 Haswell 3.5GHz 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1150 84W Server Processor BX80646E31246V3
Intel Xeon E3-1246 v3 Haswell 3.5GHz 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1150 84W Server Processor BX80646E31246V3

Pros: Replaced my aging home server system with this CPU (MB/RAM/SSD/Graphics as well). Day and night performance difference. - Cheaper than comparable i7 series, E5 series - Provides similar performance compared to E1276 which is another 50$ more - Less heat (ony 84w) - Socket 1150/DDR3 reduces overall price compared to latest generation which require DDR4 - Rock solid performance - Every bit of intel virtualization flag enabled on this CPU (compared to desktop series) - 3.5GHZ out of box with no compelling need to overclock (at least for my purposes) - running fedora 22 non-stop for a week. - Kde Plasma 5.3 works smoothly

Cons: None noted so far

Overall Review: Have built so many computers in the past and this is by far the smoothest build I have ever experienced. Just assembled everything and started the computer. Installed Fedora 22, Couple of virtual machines, setup my samba shares, printers etc, within 45 minutes. Planning to add 3-4 more virtual machines to build a hadoop cluster Un-scientific comparison Old H/w - Intel Q6600/Asus A8N-SLI Motheboard, Samsung 830 SSD, 8GB RAM - Linux installation and provisioning - 30 - 60 minutes - PFSense & Untangle installation - 30 minutes - System boot - 3 minutes - Untangle startup - 6 minutes inside vm New HW - Xeon E3-1246, ASRock Z97 Fatality Pro MB, GSKill 16GB, Muskin Reactor 250 and EVGA Geforce 750 - Linux installation and provisioning - 5 minutes - PFSense & Untangle installation - 5 minutes - System boot - 30 seconds - Untangle startup - 20 seconds I can now have my startup from 0 to all the way under 2 minutes (previously it used take at least 10-12 minutes). All with just 1% of CPU consumption. :)

2nd MOBO had the same issue

ASUS Z97-PRO(Wi-Fi ac) LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
ASUS Z97-PRO(Wi-Fi ac) LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: - Excellent ASUS Customer support - Advanced RMA process from ASUS - Newegg RMA process was excellent

Cons: ASUS sent me a replacement board (brand new) as advance replacement against RMA. Second motherboard exhibited the exact same issue. The EVA nvidia 750Ti showed black/blank screen. Only the onboard video worked. Nvidia driver could not even detect the card. Tried with several options, including reinstalling win7. Card would simply be recognized by the board. Tested the graphics card in another system (XEN Server/) that was built several years back. (AMD X2, Biostar PCI-E 1.x motherboard). The card was detected immediately and display worked without any issue. Not sure what the issue with PCI-E. Returned the motherboard and ordered ASrock extreme6. Let me see if that works.
