Pros: Great for people with a budget. Low power consumption Very cool operating temperature, quiet fan. Excellent for streaming HD video, multitasking, and casual games. Impressive for the price.
Cons: As expected you're not going to do any hardcore gaming on the APU alone. However with that said. It's capable of running these games on low to medium settings. Some games will run on High and Max because they're not graphically intensive (Poker Night, The Wolf among us, Walking Dead) Really, there's nothing bad to say for what you're getting. I'm impressed to see the advancements with APU technology.
Overall Review: I built for a friend looking to have a cheap media center, this processor was perfect for the price. Paired with an MSI A55m-E35 and 4gb 1600GHz RAM. Some simple gaming tests when I got to play with it: Skyrim on auto-detected HIGH settings: 22-30FPS - Easily tweaked to gain 30+ FPS, very playable. Battlefield BC2 on low settings multiplayer, 30-40 FPS. Windows 7 Experience: CPU: 6.4 RAM: 5.9 Graphics: 6.6 Gaming Graphics: 6.6 -Also tested with 8GB 2600 Gskill Trident X RAM Bumped RAM to 7.9, and both Gaming ratings to 6.7 No real noticeable increase in FPS, maybe an extra 3-5 FPS. Probably better gains with higher-end APUs.
Good case for a small space, and low price!
Pros: - Simple box frame design that gives you enough space to fit nearly everything. - Fits an average length GPU with great side access to cool it. - Chosen silent front panel, Looks and feels great. - LEDs are tucked under the bottom lip. Its a nice soft minimal glow that won't the eyes. - Probably the best looking, smallest, cheapest MiniITX case that you can use for a living room gaming rig. My reason for buying it.
Cons: - I Noticed some quality defects with my case.. Some of the rivets holding the structural frame together were loose, which I was able to fix. The top casing shell also has a slight upward bow to it. Imagine a jar lid and the freshness seal. You can push it down but it pops back up. Its kind of like that.. 1 egg off. - A MODULAR POWER SUPPLY WILL BE YOUR FRIEND! To me this seemed to be a must with this case unless you want a nightmare with cable management. I am using a half modular with just a SATA, and PCIe Power and it just fits the cabling. This is especially true if you intend of installing the front 120mm fan which limits the space further. Honestly though, the case is well vented enough that it wasn't really needed. -Also due to the length of my PSU, the top HDD mounting plate couldn't be fully utilized. Luckily, this case gives you other options to mount 2.5" drives on the bottom. Basically I stacked an SSD and HDD together with a custom bracket.
Overall Review: I've always wanted to buy one of these for the reason of making a MiniITX gaming\Media PC, and it worked just as I hoped it would. It was fun figuring out how to lay out the parts and cabling, Despite the small quality issues, the overall design was well thought out, sturdy, and gives you just enough space internally to get it done.
Quality case
Pros: - Filtered, excellent airflow through chassis. - Pleasing quality. Nothing loose or feels like any corners were cut to keep price low. - Professional appearance and design. - No problem fitting MSI R9 270 Gaming edition GPU card and keeping it cool. - Included 120mm front fan was quiet and pushes a good amount of air. - Front I/O USB 3 connection.
Cons: - Blue power LED is very bright and sort of distracting. - Prone to some fingerprints
Overall Review: - Bought this on sale for $26 with free shipping. Feels like a steal. - The best looking, filtered, and no non-sense Micro-atx case in my opinion.
Works well
Pros: This is exactly what I was hoping for to gain a cheap secondary hard drive bay. I used this to house a 320GB Western Digital black drive for my games and storage. -Arrived very quickly in bubble padded mailing envelope. -The generic face plate was easily swapped with my original optical drive so its visually seamless to the laptop. You'll obviously have to re-use the small rear mounting bracket from your optical drive to make this work too.. for those who might be wondering. -Cheap price, quality is pretty good.
Cons: None
Better than expected
Pros: - Cheap! - Looks like an SNES controller and behaves like one. - Buttons feel good. None of them are too stiff or mushy when you press them. - DPAD feels like it should. - No hassle plug-and-play within Windows. - Usable with a Raspberry Pi. - Ordered and arrived within the same week.
Cons: - Feels noticeably lighter than the original. (non-issue) - Small visual molding flaws in the plastic casing. (non-issue)
Overall Review: I just wanted a cheap USB SNES controller to use with my Raspberry Pi and I'm quite pleased it works and feels good enough to not make a fuss about. It's better than I expected being a cheap Chinese knock-off. I'm definitely considering about getting another one.
HTPC
Pros: -Great for simple HTPC builds -Supports 1600Mhz RAM with 3rd gen CPUs. -DVI, VGA, HDMI and Optical audio output. -UEFI BIOS. -Plenty of USB
Cons: - Issues with BIOS version, but fixable (See other thoughts) - The IO bracket shield doesn't have the two usb ports punched out above the HDMI port. (its also shown this way in the photo)..Not really an big issue but why would this go unnoticed with quality control?
Overall Review: This is my first ECS board and bought as a splurge item to go with a spare i3-3225. Its main use was to be an HTPC build and spare computer. I'm pretty satisfied with it so far, but not without some initial troubleshooting. The board behaved strangely which I eventually solved with an upgraded BIOS: It refused to output to a PCIe graphics card when the HDMI cable was plugged into it. There was no HDD activity or signs of it booting upon power up. I was able to "trick" it to boot and use the graphics card only if I didn't have the HDMI cable plugged in and this only happened with cold boots. Weird. I then flashed the BIOS to the most current version. The UEFI BIOS layout had completely changed and it was for the better. After that my graphics card worked on a cold boot each and every time. Has been running stable for over a month now. Not bad for $35 as part of a sale.
