Initial experience is great!

ASUS ROG GeForce GTX 1070 8GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Graphics Card STRIX-GTX1070-O8G-GAMING
ASUS ROG GeForce GTX 1070 8GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Graphics Card STRIX-GTX1070-O8G-GAMING

Pros: Working well in my first week of ownership. Card runs cool even with ASUS Tweak II quick settings to OC mode. Be sure to measure case space for this card. It's long.

Cons: None so far. Hoping things stay this way. I will update if anything changes in this area.

Overall Review: The reason I bought this card was not for gaming. I am not much of a gamer any more but I can appreciate those who do. I bought this card for my other hobby in 3D. I use various 3D programs for work (Maya, C4D & 3DS Max) and at home I happen to use 3D Studio Max with V-Ray 3.04.02 as my render engine (I am aware of several other render engines as well). Included in the V-ray renderer is a GPU renderer called V-Ray RT. I am using this new card to do my GPU rendering and thus far I’m enjoying the results. In my Initial test I was able to take a frame that took 1.5hrs using the V-Ray CPU bucket renderer , down to 10min. a frame using V-Ray RT GPU rendering in conjunction with the new Denoiser Pass (which helps greatly). In my second test on a very simple scene, my CPU render times from 4.5-10min. went down to 2.5-4min. per frame using the GPU. So, I am quite pleased with this card. Of course I would love to have bought the 1080 but at this time I could only justify the cost of the 1070. If things continue to go well, I may purchase a second card to further decrease render times. What is great about using the card for GPU rendering is that SLI is not necessary. V-ray will use any available GPU installed. I also have an older GTX 580 installed and I could select which GPUs I wanted to use for rendering (one or the other or even both). Also in my second test, I am rendering an animation so, using ASUS Tweak II software I set the settings to OC mode and went to bed. I checked the render in the morning which was still going and the temperature of the GPU was in the mid-40s. I have seen it go into the 50s but generally this card runs cool for my purposes. I don’t often see postings concerning this subject matter but rather mostly gaming. If others are doing the same thing as I am, postings on their experiences would be appreciated. I hope this posting was helpful to someone out there… Cheers,
