Finicky, but once you get to know it...

GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard
GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: This board came to me with the F8 bios flashed, which at the time of shipment was the most recent bios available. The day after I received the motherboard, the F9 bios was released. What amazes me is that the board is receiving active updates. I'm used to product support being phased out as soon as they're no longer top end products. The price is also really good considering what you get with this board!

Cons: With certian settings it starts acting REALLY bizarre. Gigabyte is improving on this already great board with relative frequency, so I can't complain too much. It's still better than any Asus board I've used or met, but not as good as my trusty SLI-DR. The colors of the board are terrible though. These two things knocked the score down to 4, but I'd honestly give it 4.5 if I could. Overall, it's a great board for somebody like me. OC OC OC OC OC like mad, man! One other thing: Vdroop and lots of it. Load Line Calibration helps a lot.

Overall Review: If you buy this motherboard, leave the stock settings alone until you know what they do. Everything works more or less as it should but some settings are better than others in the bios, in terms of compatibility and stability. For example, setting the MCH latch is usually a bad idea. it caused a lot of problems for me. Start with stock settings and just proceed to bump the FSB and adjust RAM to stock settings. I dropped an e5300 into this board, which was 57$ with a combo deal on my Antec Nine Hundred case, and that E5300 is currently running at 3.57... now keep in mind I've had this setup since the 15th, and I've never messed with core 2 duo setups before. I'm an old 939 veteran still figuring this new(ish) technology out. Basically, don't change something unless you know you need it... I see a lot of people complaining about the USB ports freezing up... and I saw that too... but it's an issue with certain settings. Only settings I've changed are the FSB, ram strap, and CPU voltage.

USB connector failed.

Rosewill RK-9000RE - Mechanical Keyboard with Cherry MX Red Switches
Rosewill RK-9000RE - Mechanical Keyboard with Cherry MX Red Switches

Pros: Key feel is great.

Cons: USB connector (where the cable is plugged in on the keyboard) broke after 7 months. Doesn't matter how good the keyboard is, or how good the keys are, a broken keyboard is completely useless. I'm going to try and resolder the USB connector and then use some hot glue to hold it in place (so it doesn't break again)... but having to repair something so soon that shouldn't have broke in the first place is annoying... Especially for a high end keyboard.

Overall Review: Gonna have to pursue some kind of replacement...

Used to be epic... but...

WD Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive
WD Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: These drives are great, barring the one con I'll list in the con section. Speed is good, access time is good, and storage capacity is great. All this in one package makes for an outstanding drive. Also the 5 year warranty is just plain wonderful. You should outgrow the drive prior to the warranty expiring.

Cons: Western Digital has removed a feature most higher end users craved from this drive: configurable TLER. The thing is, they used to be good drives for use with RAID cards, regardless of what Western Digital would have you to believe, but western digital took it upon itself to change this feature without changing the model number, in effect... I've bought several caviar blacks having to return them because after the change (again, same product, different functionality) they were worthless to me. Even with the ones that did work, were I to rma a failed drive I'd of gotten one that wouldn't work.

Overall Review: this is a good drive for those who want a lot of storage in a raid 0 or 1 configuration or even as a standalone drive. Those of you wanting raid 5 or any other multi-disk raid, look elsewhere.

Good standalone drives, but not good for RAID!

Western Digital Black WD7501AALS 750GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive Bare Drive
Western Digital Black WD7501AALS 750GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Good drives... at least were good drives.

Cons: Western Digital used to allow users to turn TLER off for RAID use (raid 5, etc). Now, they have disabled it. No product change... still the caviar black 750GB... but they've pulled features. If you want RAID, I'd advise against these. Now, I did actually test to see if they'd run anyway in RAID. The RAID failed in 2 days of use (and one major data upload, as it was configured in a file server). These drives require TLER functionality to run in RAID... and WD has since disabled it.

Overall Review: I loved these drives until they disabled the TLER functionality... now they're just like everything else out there. Storage. Buy what's cheap. You don't need WD Black... you need fast... and every other manufacturer has got it.

My favorite headphones!

SONY MDR-V6 3.5mm/ 6.3mm Connector Circumaural Studio Monitor Series Headphone
SONY MDR-V6 3.5mm/ 6.3mm Connector Circumaural Studio Monitor Series Headphone

Pros: The pros about these headphones is the bass response and the mid range are both clear, and full of health. Everything is all there, some better than others, but it's good. They have deep thunderous base that reverbrates for eons, midrange that clearly defines the sounds coming into your ears, and the treble is just good enough to cut an opening in the thick shell of "the day" that has grown around you and let you relax and enjoy your music.

Cons: Not all that great for gaming, they are very "front row" in their presentation so you get everything "in your face". This is perfect for music, but games, everything sounds like it's directly to your left or directly to your right... or at least somewhere in the left area or somewhere in your right area... Spacing and placement is totally off for these, but like I said, music plays good on them... especially hip hop and electronic.

Overall Review: I don't know a lot about headphones, and I'm fairly new to the head-fi scene, but these headphones were my first introduction to higher end audio, see above for my thoughts...

Sennheiser HD205 3.5mm/ 6.3mm Connector Supra-aural Headphones and Accessories
Sennheiser HD205 3.5mm/ 6.3mm Connector Supra-aural Headphones and Accessories

Pros: At first i was semi impressed by these headphones, but as time wore on, I started to learn what they truly were. They lasted me almost 2 months... but I can't decide if that's a positive thing or not.

Cons: They fit too tightly on the head, the cup is too small, and the wire is thin and spidery. The sound is light and very unmotivated on my X-Fi titanium. I wouldn't recommend these headphones to anybody using this sound card. They were very short lived in terms of me tolerating them. Quite frankly, TERRIBLE. I bought them specifically because of the sennheiser name, and it didn't live up.

Overall Review: The Sony MDR-V6 headphones, which unfortunately are not sold here, have proven to be a much better product. I'll keep the sennheisers for devices that can't drive my MDR-V6's.
