they work without complaining

OCZ Platinum 6GB (3 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Voltage Desktop Memory Model OCZ3P1600LV6GK
OCZ Platinum 6GB (3 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Voltage Desktop Memory Model OCZ3P1600LV6GK

Pros: At the time of my purchase, the OCZ 3x2GB Platinum series had the lowest timings available for triple channel 1600MHz kits - AND - the best pricing from beloved newegg. Plugged into X58 mobo with i7 920. First installed running default 1066 @ 8-8-8-24 on 1.5v and had no issues. Took some tweaks to figure out how to get the ram to run at 1600 @ 7-7-7-20 on 1.6v but got it sorted out and been stable without issue!

Cons: Originally OCZ specs showed these at 7-7-7-20 on 1.5v but I think that was a marketing blunder... as the 1.5v is the default and to manually set the timings lower requires an overvolt up to 1.65v - OCZ never responded to my queries, but I sorted it out through trial and error.

Overall Review: EVGA X58 + Intel i7 920 + OCZ 3x2GB Platinum 1600MHz @ 7-7-7-20 on 1.6v All motherboard BIOS settings vary... if you have an EVGA mobo, visit the evga forums for detailed and simple walkthroughs on the BIOS settings to OC the i7 and this OCZ ram.

Newegg Wrong Spec

EVERCOOL FAN-ALED8025B2 80mm Blue LED Case cooler
EVERCOOL FAN-ALED8025B2 80mm Blue LED Case cooler

Pros: 12dBA and 32CFM... Too Good To Be True? (see below)

Cons: Aluminum housing does not keeps the fan cooler. Do chromed fan blades make for less air friction? LED light only useful in case you forget where you mounted the fan.

Overall Review: Newegg has an noise rating of 12 dBA on this fan which was the reason I purchased it. The packaging indicates the noise rating to be <28 dBA and the next number is voltage of 12 ... so I think Newegg just got the numbers mixed up in their database. And I love Newegg.... how can you betray me! :p

it is what it is

Acer Aspire 15.6" Intel Pentium P6100 3GB Memory DDR3 1066 Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit LX.RJW02.020
Acer Aspire 15.6" Intel Pentium P6100 3GB Memory DDR3 1066 Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit LX.RJW02.020

Pros: I picked this laptop because it had 3GB ram compared to 2GB ram for the i3 model. It met my budget and included things that I wanted in a simple notebook (DVD player, full size keyboard, numerical keypad, 3GB+, Windows 7, built in wireless). This wont play any heavy games, but I can watch HD 720 movies at full screen with no stutter and I can do some 3D gaming with low settings.

Cons: BAD NEWS: the USB ports on the right side did not work. I did all the Windows updates and Acer updates to no avail... so I have a single USB port on the left side which is good enough for me. It's a "little" large for a notebook, but still fits fine in my backpack.

Overall Review: Yes, I would recommend this to others who need similar functionality. Though, don't look for Acer tech support.

WD My Book Home 750GB USB 2.0 / Firewire400 / eSATA 3.5" External Hard Drive WDH1CS7500N
WD My Book Home 750GB USB 2.0 / Firewire400 / eSATA 3.5" External Hard Drive WDH1CS7500N

Pros: Multiple connections. External (can be powered off when not in use, saving energy) High Capacity. Western Digital.

Cons: Some people report connectivity issues. Some people report drive failures. Western Digital.

Overall Review: Everyone has a favored and a hated Hard Drive brand. I bought four WD My Books (Home and Office versions with multiple connection options because of the problems reported with the Essential version 1.0) and I honestly only have problems with these when I try to boot with the USB plugged in. Not a big deal... unplug the external... boot... plug in the external when needed. I only plug these drives in when needed, so the boot issue does not bother me.

Claro Plus enjoyment

HT OMEGA CLARO Plus+ 7.1 Channels 24-bit 192KHz PCI Interface Sound Card
HT OMEGA CLARO Plus+ 7.1 Channels 24-bit 192KHz PCI Interface Sound Card

Pros: The Claro PLUS has an upgraded opamp from the regular version of the card. Other Pros include comments like: AWESOME Clear-Sound Now-I-Can-Tell-My-Cheap-Speakers-Suck Why-Did-I-Wait-So-Long-To-Upgrade-To-Good-Sound Save-Money-To-Buy-Good-Speakers-Now I-Thought-Audiophiles-Were-Jerks-Until-I-Used-This-Card

Cons: Windows 7 64-bit doesn't like the Xear 32-bit control panel (I hope HT Omega creates a true 64-bit tool or at least fixes the 32-bit version to work on W7)

Overall Review: Installed on Vista Ultimate 64-bit and works great, including drivers and Xear control panel. I did notice that there are fewer software tools available from when I had it installed on my XP Pro 32-bit machine. I have this running a pair of Swans D1080MKII (recent speaker upgrade) and the Claro Plus continues to impress.

EVGA E758-A1 3-Way SLI (x16/x16/x8) LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard
EVGA E758-A1 3-Way SLI (x16/x16/x8) LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: 1. EVGA Customer support. 2. EVGA Forums. 3. EVGA 90-day Step-Up program This EVGA X58 allows for TRIPLE Crossfire/SLI and when running dual, it doesnt block the last PCI port (I needed to be able to install my wonderful HT Omega Claro Plus audio card) I could have gone with Asus P6T Deluxe... but my last 2 builds were Asus and items 1,2,3 above sold me on this one.

Cons: Price - but its crossfire/sli and enthusiasts are being served first to get the rest of the market excited. You pay for the bleeding edge. This is not your mother's motherboard. You'll need to tweak the bios to get your ram and cpu overclocked. But with the clear cmos button and nice bios layout - EVGA makes it FUN and EASY as long as you read the forums and do it right. Also, this motherboard unfortunately doesn't do the dishes, laundry, or wash your back. But all three of those things include getting wet, so maybe it's okay not to.

Overall Review: I was coming off my last 2 builds using ASUS motherboards and wanted better customer support - given that I was stepping into uncharted i7 territory. 3DMarkVantage record is currently held with this EVGA X58 motherboard ... and the beefier EVGA F.T.W. X58 is coming soon (supposedly March? so the 90-day step up program will be available for buyers in January) EVGA X58 + Intel i7 920 + (@ 3.5GHz) OCZ 3x2GB Platinum 1600 DDR3 (@7-7-7-20 on 1.6v) + two Sapphire Radeon 3870 Toxic video cards (Crossfire)
