Awesome machine for the price

Lenovo IdeaPad - 15.6" - Intel Core i7 3rd Gen 3630QM (2.40GHz) - Dual NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M SLI - 16 GB DDR3 - 1TB HDD 16 GB SSD - Windows 8 - Gaming Laptop (Y500 (59359559) )

Pros: Extremely powerful machine. Decent battery life (given the power it has). Screen is amazing. Speakers are beyond anything I've ever head in a laptop. Runs very cool even under heavy load (63C on each GPU when running the Unigine Heaven demo on max settings for about 10 minutes)

Cons: Overclocking of the GPU's is locked out in the BIOS. Really needs to come with an SSD main drive. Bloatware (not really that much). I'm not a fan of Windows 8.

Overall Review: For the money you pay for it, this machine is very powerful, without being able to overclock it I'm scoring just shy of 4k 3dmarks in Performance mode. In games its really awesome (at least for the ones I play). In Skryim I run 40+ fps constant, usually up near 60 with settings on Ultra and at the native panel resolution of 1920x1080. Fallout:New Vegas runs at 60fps on Ultra while I'm recording FRAPS videos. Sadly, Fallout 3 is apparently not compatible with Windows 8.. not the laptops fault, I blame Microsoft. On the whole this is an excellent machine, I bought it to use for work, school and play and it seems to be capable of fulfilling all those needs without breaking a sweat. Eve-Online at 40ish FPS in heavy firefights with all settings maxed out. Could this machine be better? Yeah sure it could, but would you want to pay for it? If so, go with one of the machines with an Nvidia GTX 675MX or GTX680MX (or even duals of those). personally I'm not made of money and this machine is exactly what I needed and the price didn't require me to auction any organs or extremities to be able to pay for it.

Some dead back lights on arrival

RAZER Blackwidow Ultimate Gaming Elite Mechanical Keyboard
RAZER Blackwidow Ultimate Gaming Elite Mechanical Keyboard

Pros: Awesome keyboard, typing is very nice, had good feedback and the backlighting has a great range of brightness options.

Cons: On mine the backlighting started failing on a few keys within the first few days of ownership.

Overall Review: Its very disappointing after having paid over $100.00 for a keyboard to have to RMA it due to defective manufacture, especially since NewEgg makes you pay the return shipping (which was almost $20.00).

This is an amazing drive!

SAMSUNG 840 EVO 2.5" 1TB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-7TE1T0BW
SAMSUNG 840 EVO 2.5" 1TB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-7TE1T0BW

Pros: Blisteringly fast. Huge capacity (1TB) Samsung Magician Software

Cons: Price is a bit steep. Does not include USB 3.0 to SATA cable.

Overall Review: I installed this drive into a Lenovo Y500 gaming laptop, it replaced a 1TB 5400rpm and the 16GB SSD cache drives. The difference in performance is astonishing. For those with this laptop who may be wondering, you do indeed have a SATA III controller, however both the mSATA and HDD that ship in this machine (or at least in mine), were only SATA II. Moving to this drive really wakes up the performance. I swapped to Windows 7 Pro when I installed this drive since the Y500 doesn't have a touchscreen and the upgrade to Windows 8.1 broke my SLI on the GPU's. Yes its silly to downgrade, but I had the Windows 8 install configured to look and act more like Windows 7 than Windows 8 anyway. Windows 8 is not worth using without a touchscreen device (which is what it was made for). This was an extremely expensive investment, about half what I paid for the entire notebook back in April, but its like having a brand new machine. If you're on the fence about using SSD's then jump to the SSD side. Things run much faster over on this side of the fence.

Great for Asus

ZALMAN Notebook Cooler ZM-NC2000 Black
ZALMAN Notebook Cooler ZM-NC2000 Black

Pros: Extremely sturdy construction, looks great, the anodized aluminum finish w/ the rubber strips keeps your laptop exactly where you put it. The ability to lift the back of the cooler by about a half inch is great for typing. So quiet on high that I had to check the airflow by raising the laptop and putting my hand on the plate to check for movement.

Cons: Not exactly portable, doesn't keep my Asus laptop from getting any hotter under max load, but it does cool it down very, very quickly and keep it from heating up as fast. Would be nice to have the ability to power it from an AC outlet.

Overall Review: I have one of the new Asus G60Jx gaming laptops with the i5-433 CPU and GTS360M GPU. Under normal circumstances this laptop can't run games without a cooler (unless you're playing outside in Antarctica). Left left wrist pad would get so hot just doing normal word processing and spreadsheet tasks that I used a cloth wrist rest to keep the flesh on my arm 8) Using BOINC with CUDA apps running I could get the CPU to 51C on both cores and the GPU to 84C in about 15 seconds (from a cold start) while using a Targus notebook cooler. After shutting down Boinc it could take up to 2 minutes for the temps to go back to idle and the aforementioned wrist rest would still cook you. With the Zalman the temps still get to 84C GPU and 51C CPU but it takes almost 2 full minute and the wrist rest stays kewl. Also, the temps return to idle in < a minute. Great product that does a lot for my machine!

Very well made!

Thermaltake Silver River II ST0016U Aluminum 3.5" Black SATA I/II USB 2.0 & eSATA External Enclosure
Thermaltake Silver River II ST0016U Aluminum 3.5" Black SATA I/II USB 2.0 & eSATA External Enclosure

Pros: Sturdy aluminum construction, very affordable for eSATA, fast, super easy to assemble, tools are included, did I mention fast?

Cons: No cooling fans, no metal to metal contact between drive and exterior metal shell. Does get a little warm at times. Still, nothing that will burn you or destroy the drive not worth loosing an egg over.

Overall Review: I bought this enclosure to use with a Seagate 1.5TB (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148337) that I had pulled out of my old desktop when I bought my new Asus G60Jx. I needed extra fast storage for doing video editing on the go and holding my rather massive video collection. The drive has both USB and eSATA cables as well as a rather beefy power supply. Highly recommend this enclosure!
