Does this drive come with a USB kit for data transfer?

No it does not. Evo drives that come with a desktop kit the model number ends with "KW" and ones that come with notebook kit ends with "LW"

This drive model number ends with "BW" it's a bare drive, no adapter or sata cable. Jut the drive and CD and manuals.

The desktop kit includes a sata cable and USB 2.0 adapter. The notebook kit is a USB 3.0 adapter.

is this for a laptop of desktop?

The Samsung 840 EVO can be used for either a laptop or a desktop.  But you need to ensure that you have the proper cable connection.  Wikipedia has a good explanation for connector types (search for "serial ata").  If you are looking to mount this to a dektop, I would recommend buying a mounting kit as well.

Question 3

Is this for laptops only?  I see a lot of posts about laptops, nothing about desktops.  I see nothing in the item desc that says which one it's for though.

This is an excellent drive for a desktop: I've been using one in my desktop for a while now. It's fast and large. It probably works for certain laptops, too, but I've never put mine in one. You'll want to make sure your motherboard supports SATA 6 Gb/s (sometimes called SATA III) to benefit maximally. Hope this helps.

Will this work on desktop or laptop? Thinking about buying two, one fore each.

As soon as this 1 TB SSD came out circa October 2013, I built a whole new Win 7 gaming rig around it. Not going to bore you with my system components, but will say that this SSD is FAST and stable. Samsun Magician software that comes with it enables you to TRIM the drive and does all sorts of other tweaking.

Highly recommend this drive. Was going to buy two myself and put them in a Raid configuration, but I don't need to do that now.

Question 5

I currently have an SSD as my boot/application drive and a platter HD for games data, can I transfer the information from both disks to this when I install it?

Yes! I did the exact that thing, making two partitions on the new SSD. The included Samsung transfer software did not work and there is no easy way to connect the new SSD so you can transfer to it anyway. So I bought this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812161005 It includes the USB 3 to SATA/SSD connector. I set up two partitions, F and G, I think, on my new Samsung SSD then cloned both drives over with the Apricorn software. Next you have to rename the new SSD partitions to C: and D: (or what every they were in the old configuration) and remove the old SSD and Platter drive, reboot and you are good to go. I am sure there are other ways, but this worked well for me. I use my old HD as my back up drive now.

For this SSD on a desktop, do you have to have a different cable?  I notice it works with the connection on a laptop, but the desktop is a larger connector...

No, it will work with standard desktop connectors.  You will need to have a SATA Power connector running from your power supply, and a SATA III Cable to run from your SSD to your motherboard.

If you're upgrading/building a desktop, I would recommend getting a 128, or 256 GB SSD and a 1TB or 2TB 7200rpm HHD, and usuing the SSD for programs and the OS, while using the HHD for storage, you'll save about 200 bucks and have a system that runs quite fast.  I bought this drive for a laptop where there's only space for one drive.

Is this drive for a laptop ,or is it also for a desktop?

If it fits physically, it will probably work in a laptop.  Check the height of your current laptop drive and this one and make sure this one is equal or thinner.  For a desktop, you may need a 2.5 to 3.5 HD adapter tray.  Make sure the device's BIOS can support 1 TB.

Question 8

This is a stupid question. My laptop is an HP Pavilion DV7t-3000 and it has a SATA drive in it that I want to replace. This drive is a SATA III and I am not sure if this will work on a regular SATA drive machine. Does this drive will work on it ?? I did say it was a stupid question but I will appreciate any feedback.  Thanks !!

Yes. However, if the SATA controller in your HP laptop is not capable of 6Gb/s, performance will be inhibited. For example, SATA II is cable of only 3Gb/s and SATA I is capable of only 1.5Gb/s.

Will this drive work with my ASUS P6X58D-E motherboard ?

It's an SATA drive that will with any SATA interface.  I'm using 2 of them in a raid 0 configuration with the ASUS Hero MB, no issues.  The fast boot requires Windows 8.  The  ASUS P6X58D-E will be able use the EVO drive(s).  Samsung has a migration tool that will work for a non-raid drive.  Used it to clone mt laptop and replace with an EVO-- very fast, and much less battery load.  RAID migration requires another tool-- Farstone has a free one that works well.

Will this ssd work with a late 2011 MacBook Pro?

I have this SSD installed in my late 2011 Macbook Pro 17" [APMBPMD311LL]

A while back I went from 4GB to 8GB RAM, and that improved the speed somewhat, but going to this SSD was a MAJOR improvement in speed.

I used a SATA connector and used the Mac restore to clone the original drive to the SSD, which took overnight, and then installed it and the whole process whent faultlessly.

I had to re-input my Office 2011 product key.
