Works surprisingly well
Pros: Installed without a hitch on XP sp2. It scanned for OTA channels and found 22 here in NYC. Thats more than my huge rooftop antenna picks up! HDTV (especially in 1080) looks awesome on a nice widescreen display. Channels switch fast and signal stays locked on decently well. The included software also seems pretty good. It allows you to record anything you see (in HD!) using MPEG2. It even allows you to convert and sync whatever you record to another device such as an iPod for on the go viewing.
Cons: Software hangs occasionally if you switch to a channel with very poor reception.
Overall Review: For the price ($30 with free shipping) this really can't be beat.
Not for overclockers
Pros: Seems well built with quality components. Good specs for a good price.
Cons: If you plan on buying this over overclocking - beware! There seems to be a serious issue with this board and leaving the various voltages set to AUTO in the bios. I knew something was up when my Q6600 couldn't hit 2.8ghz stable. I soon noticed that both the north and south bridge heatsinks were sizzling - it would burn me on touch. This didn't seem normal to me. Then I read online that some P45/P43 boards have issues with the voltages, and should be set manually. So I went ahead and set them to the lowest manual setting possible for the FSB, the MCH and ICH. Bam, after that, I could hit 3.0ghz stable in Prime95 with all 4 cores running, and the bridge heatsinks were now only warm. For those interested, here are my settings: CPU: Auto (seems to keep it at default VID @ 3ghz) RAM: Auto MCH: 1.16 FSB: 1.22 ICH: 1.50 I had no idea what the BIOS was setting the voltages left to auto, since it doesn't actually tell you, but it was obviously too high to cause that much hea
Overall Review: If this is your first time overclocking, or are a novice at it, this board is NOT for you. If you want a nice cheap, quality board to run at stock speeds, or are willing to tinker with the settings, its a decent option. Also, the board produces at least 12 beeps during POST which you can't seem to disable. Its supposed to be "normal" as its polling the USB ports, but it gets annoying fast.
Not too bad
Pros: Overall great performance, though not as big of a jump as I was expecting coming from a GTX280. Works flawlessly with an Apple 27" Cinema Display using a MiniDP -> DP converter cable.
Cons: Card gets quite loud during gaming, and isn't even all that quiet at idle either. Most of the heat does not get expelled from the rear vent, so be prepared for an extra fan in your front bay if you don't want your hard drives to cook.
Overall Review: Unless you specifically need the Displayport, I would go with a reference design card instead.
Simply Amazing
Pros: The fan does not turn on at all when just dabbling around in windows or browsing the net. And even when it does during serious gaming, its superbly quiet. On top of that, it runs unbelievably cool. My old Corsair PSU would be hot to the touch most of the time. The X650 is completely cool, even without the fan running! I can't speak much for the voltages, but its been stable thus far. Everything about the PSU just screams quality.
Cons: They could have thrown in a few cable ties?
Overall Review: Yes it costs a lot. But if you are a "normal" computer user (single high end video card) who upgrades once every couple of years, you can easily expect to be using this guy for 8 years down the road. Thats a good 2-4 builds depending on how often you upgrade! Hopefully they don't change the ATX spec by then!
Great card, great price!
Pros: Excellent performance in modern games. Tons of VRAM give it an advantage over 512mb cards. Seems to come factory overclocked, despite what Newegg says. Mines is clocked at 621 core (575 default), and 2160 memory (2000 default). Also, the cooler is surprisingly quiet. Even under load it doesn't seem to really spin up much or make any noise. Perhaps during the summer months...
Cons: Yes, its huge, though a lot better built than the pics would leave you to believe. Luckily it fit in my ancient case with tons of room to spare. It tends to warm up during load, so try to keep a decent amount of free space around it to allow for air movement. Also, make sure your PSU is up for the task. Remember, it requires TWO PCIE connections to power this guy. Also, mines didnt come with the free copy of Rainbow 6 Vegas.
Overall Review: Basically seems to be a reference Nvidia card with MSI stickers slapped on it. The overall build is excellent - all metal design. If your fan seems noisy, try peeling off the huge thick MSI sticker placed on the fan. Mines wasn't even centered properly, and had I left it on, probably would have caused an excessive amount of vibration.
Comments: I bought this drive in the hopes that it would be a quiet drive. Well, not only is it quiet, but its actually less audible than a Seagate barracuda 7200.7, one of the quietest drives available. The seeks on the Samsung drive are remarkably silent - almost undetectable. And to think, you can further reduce noise by downloading the disk tools on Samsungs website!
