Great for a not-so-mini MHack

Intel BOXDG31PR LGA 775 Intel G31 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
Intel BOXDG31PR LGA 775 Intel G31 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Insanely OSX compatible. Feels more stable running Leopard than many Apple Macs I've used. Intel seems to go for conservative, rugged and reliable, vs. bleeding edge overclockable, but it pays off in system stability. Great that it has 4 SATA ports.

Cons: It would be nice to have more than 2 RAM slots and a capacity for more than 4GB, but you can't have everything, so no complaints.

Overall Review: This, an E4600 Allendale, 4GB of Mushkin DDR800, 500GB Samsung HD makes for a sweet <$500 Hackintosh.

Most Critical Review

Poor Quality

ZOTAC NF610I-E-E LGA 775 NVIDIA GeForce 7050 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
ZOTAC NF610I-E-E LGA 775 NVIDIA GeForce 7050 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Low cost, nice layout.

Cons: Mine didn't arrive DOA, but it may as well have been. Trying to install XP64, it blue-screened right off, and continued to blue-screen at different stages of install. I checked with different RAM, even another CPU; problem was definitely the board. Attempted a Vista install, and it locked up. There's definitely a quality-control problem with this model motherboard. Thank goodness for newegg RMA. Replaced with a different brand/model board + the same components working flawlessly.

Overall Review: I was surprised by the poor quality of this board considering I've had no trouble with other Zotac products like video cards. Hopefully just a fluke with this model board.

Had this little box 2 years now- it's been running nearly the whole time.

HP ProDesk 400 G2 Mini Desktop PC, Intel Core i3-6100T 3.20GHz, 8GB DDR4 RAM, 256GB SSD, WiFi, Win-10 x64 Grade A
HP ProDesk 400 G2 Mini Desktop PC, Intel Core i3-6100T 3.20GHz, 8GB DDR4 RAM, 256GB SSD, WiFi, Win-10 x64 Grade A

Pros: Perfectly stable. Tear it open and install an M.2 NVMe drive in the nearly hidden slot! Don't bother booting from any other interface, but also install a SATA SSD. Surprisingly snappy little system for basic tasks. I bought it on sale Black Friday 2020 and it's been running ever since, almost non-stop. One of the very few times it's even been rebooted was to install Windows 11. It's so tiny it's hidden somewhere under my desk and runs a few basic home networking tasks for me, and I occasionally switch over to it on a 2nd monitor I use with several Macs and PC laptop.

Cons: If you're running WIndows and like things kept really clean, HP's drivers and software can be a bit of a PITA. Personally recommend bypassing their tools and installing a clean system by hand.

Overall Review: Even in 2022 I recommend this little box for a basic system if you can find one.

Very Nice Case

NZXT Source 210 S210-002 White w/Black Front Trim “Aluminum Brush / Plastic” ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
NZXT Source 210 S210-002 White w/Black Front Trim “Aluminum Brush / Plastic” ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Pros: The white with black details looks really nice. (I've used the all black version of this case too and prefer the white just because it stands out a little). Very good quality for the price. Routing cables was easy and the interior layout easy to work with. My PSU has a bottom mounted fan, but luckily this case has bottom vents. You can mount fans pretty much everywhere in this case, though it's keeping my builds nice and cool with just one extra 120mm pulling air over the hard drives. Nice top placement of front USB ports and front audio jacks. Came with a generous selection of case screws.

Cons: Minor con, but some risers were really tough to mount, as if the holes were slightly too small from paint. Had to use needle nose pliers to get a few of them in. With two of these I've noticed the board is mounted ever-so-slightly off so that some ports are slightly misaligned with the I/O shield, but not enough to affect using them. No 3.5" external bay, but then there's just that much more room for hard drives.

Overall Review: For the price I couldn't find a nicer looking case. Clients want a build within a strict budget, but also appreciate a decent looking PC. This one delivers a quality look and nice features without breaking the budget.

Excellent!

GIGABYTE GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
GIGABYTE GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Used this board in two builds so far and I'm really impressed. I didn't have a single problem with anything. It took a few seconds to set my 16GB of DDR3 RAM to recognize at 1600 not 1333Mhz. Extremely stable in any OS. Runs OSX Lion 10.7.3 flawlessly; setup with Kakewalk 4 took less time than installing Windows 7 x64 and drivers. This is my new go-to board for Hackintosh. Easy dual-boot with 2 hard drives, OSX and Windows 7. The board just looks nice too. A very nice selection of ports and features for the price.

Cons: Really, no GUI UEFI rather than the same old BIOS look? This has been my only disappointment as I hoped to see a more modern UEFI interface as far lesser board makers now have on budget boards. I care mostly because for client builds it's a breeze to instruct troubleshooting a graphical UEFI rather than the BIOS interface. Otherwise, a minor con.

Overall Review: It's a shame others have had problems with this board- I've virtually never had problems with Gigabyte boards and this one just continues that. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this board, especially for dual-platform Hackintosh builders.

A good value

ASRock G31M-S LGA 775 Intel G31 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
ASRock G31M-S LGA 775 Intel G31 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Nice quality board for this price range. A Q8200, 4GB G.SKILL 1066, and this board make for a very nice system. XP 64 and Windows 7 x64 installed without a hitch and run smooth and stable. 8GB RAM capability a plus- now if only one could get 4GB RAM sticks cheaply.

Cons: None so far

Overall Review: Like others, running at stock speeds and everything is perfect.
