Bought for Chromebook replacement

Pros: I bought this to replace a Chromebook that I needed some windows apps to run on as well, such as Open Office. So far it has been great, and the larger 15.6" screen easier to read than the 11.6" of the Chromebook. Some notes of interest to some: - Battery is labeled as 4700mAh - Weight with battery is 4.9Lbs - WiFi card is 1/2 size and 2.4Ghz only - no 5Ghz - 4Gb RAM is installed, but integrated Video drops available to 3.2GB - Laptop is upgradeable to 16GB, and it ships with a single 4GB module - leaving one free for an easy bump to 8GB total (or really 7.2GB) - Empty slot (plastic cover in place) for CD/DVD Rom has connector on system board so can be added later if desired. "Windows 8.1 with Bing!" is just standard 8.1. The Bing reference is to the default search engine in IE set to Bing.com. Passmark was 844 - CPU 1978 out of the box. I also purchased and installed a Samsung 120GB EVO 840 SSD drive which makes an incredible difference in the bootup and use of the laptop over the stock 5400rpm drive, as would be expected. This is not my main computer so I did not need much storage. I really don't play newer games, but installed Bioshock and Asphalt 8, and played nice and smooth on default video settings. My younger kids might wander off with this and nice to know it can run some of the Web games they like, unlike the Chromebook. Sitting on 75% brightness, I am at 83% battery and stated 8 hours 42 minutes left. (granted the SSD drive might help a little). According to AMD, this CPU should only pull 15W max, similar to a Intel 4030U.
Cons: It's all black plastic and has some flex to the chassis. With nothing running besides AVG and Chrome extensions (in the background - browser not even open) it sits at about 50% RAM used. Again this is due to only 3.2GB available. Alot of Acer supplied and installed software to remove, if you want. Trackpad scrolling is reversed, but can be changed under PC settings, not mouse settings. Plastic chiclet keys that are pretty much the same as an Acer C720. No easy access to WiFi card, memory, or hard drive. You need to remove 17-18 screws on the bottom of the chassis, and seperate the top with a plastic pry tool to get to the hard drive and WiFi card. If you want access to the memory to add an additional 4GB (I have not done so yet) you need to additionally pull out the system board to access. Top cover/keyboard only has 3 cables connecting to the lower motherboard, so very easy to take off, and put back together.
Overall Review: I wanted a inexpensive no-frills windows laptop that had Chromebook-like battery life, and I think this should do just fine. It's not the easiest laptop to work on, but I don't expect to have to open it up much. I was glad to identify that it uses a single 4gb memory module over going cheaper with 2 - 2GB modules.
Great case for MicroATX

Pros: Nice roomy case for mATX boards. I almost went with a cube case, but decided I liked this look better. Paint is very nice. Not glossy, not flat black. Fits my EVGA 8800GT Card with almost an inch to spare to the drive cage side on the right. Top 2 CD-ROM bays have hinged spring loaded covers that hide your DVD ROM, and the open button lines up perfectly with my DVD burner (LITE-ON LH-20A1L-05). Shipped in double box, so not likely this can get damaged in shipping. It's a case for 25$..why have you not ordered one yet? Add a handle and it's a perfect lan gaming box.
Cons: No Computer speaker included (I just pulled one out of an old case I had) so you won't hear beep codes if there is a startup error. Front USB connectors to the motherboard can be slightly confusing. Refer to your motherboard manual, and you will be fine.
Overall Review: I added 2 Rosewill RFX-120BL 120mm 2 Ball Bearing Blue LED Case Fans for cooling, replacing the included 120mm fan. Installed is a GIGABYTE GA-G31M-S2L LGA Micro ATX, E8400 chip, 4GB Corsair memory, EVGA 512-P3-N801-AR GeForce 8800 GT 512MB, and a ZALMAN CNPS 7500 Cu LED 110mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler for the processor cooling. CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX 550W powering it all as well. All parts fit the case fine. CPU Cooler fins are about 1-2cm away from the rear exhaust fan, but everything clears. All parts ordered from NewEgg. I don't see why people think they need a full tower with 6 fans to build a gaming computer.......CPU temp is at 33o C at idle..
